School Shirts - hand down DD to DS?

Hi,

My kids are a year apart and the oldest never really wore her long sleeve shirts last year. So I’m thinking just giving them to my son rather than getting him new as they fit with a bit of growing room. He’s about to start yr7.

Would you just hand down over new?

If unisex shirt why not. If sex specific the girls will be more fitted and shorter in the body. So I would get the lad new.

Most kids wouldn’t know about the buttons thing. I’d just send him.

So we’ve been uniform shopping today and I checked the unisex ones from the school provider and they button on the left too! (Had to double check with the staff.)

So shouldn’t be an issue with anyone noticing the button side. I did get him a pack of the short sleeve ones too. So will let him choose. But let him use the existing ones we’ve got till he grows out of them.

As long as they’re a good fit I would say go for it!

We’ve done similar in the past and my son hasn’t never had any issues.

I hand everything I can down. I've just sorted the youngest for secondary school and only need to buy shirts, all PE kit, blazer etc sorted from older siblings. I should have enough of all the compulsory bits for them to grow in to.

Shirts are always the thing I have to buy, goodness knows what my older dc do to them but the inside of the collar ends up absolutely disgusting no matter how much they get washed.

Primary fine
starting secondary. Nope. Buy him boys shirts. Different cut and buttoning.

Thanks, it’s a shame at ours only really the jumper and a couple of the pe are suitable for passing down between different genders. Must have saved you a fortune being able to pass down nearly everything!

I know what you mean, her short sleeve ones were definitely not in a condition to pass on!

tbh he’s always had his sisters in primary as they only needed them for school photos and a couple of other occasions.

the cut on the M&S one’s being handed down are pretty much straight cut and they fit him well. As the unisex ones from the supplier are on the left don’t think anyone will spot the difference.

Just to update he’s been wearing his ds old ones all term apart from when it was boiling with no issues. So glad I didn’t buy new!
