In hospital abroad and so so scared

Earlier today I looked upwards while on a zip wire and immediately got a blinding pain in the back top of my head. This happened earlier this week but went away quite quickly and I thought it was stress as my ASD child was mid melt down.

My head felt like it was going to explode for maybe 20 minutes. It felt like I had been whacked round the back of the head.

Has now eased off but 3 hours later the pain in the back of my head is still there. Has turned into a more general bad headache feeling.

I'm abroad and called 111 in UK for advice. They advised I come to hospital and said possible brain haemorrhage which has frightened the life out of me.

My husband has taken the children for food and I am waiting alone. Im so frighted.

@sorehead123 meant to tag you above x

Hang on in there, medical care in France is really excellent and usually thorough. If you need any help translating we can help on here, get them to write anything down and then post a picture.

have they looked at your eyes? They would be monitoring vision I expect if they thought a haemorrhage was a possibility. Hopefully it won’t be as bad as you fear.

Update I am being seen now and Dr is sending me for a scan. They are getting me some morphine for my head which is throbbing.

I'm on my own and so scared, no one seems to speak English and I am shaking with fear

We're here online with you OP. Massive hand holding now xx

jazzhands84 · 04/08/2023 23:33

Hi OP, on your phone, find the google translate app and ask staff to type in anything they need to tell you. You'll then have a record and can understand what's being said a bit better.

It must be terrifying. Despite the language barrier, you have managed to have a scan which is great and remember, they know medicine irrespective of language. There will be English speakers, it’s pretty common and most countries are way more proactive at learning other languages than us Brits. I am sorry your family can’t be with you. As others have said, this community is with you x

I have also had amazing care in French hospitals. I remember the kindness and thouroughness to this day

Donut22 · 04/08/2023 23:39

Have they checked your blood pressure, I had the worst pain of my life I couldn't move without being sick my head felt like it was exploding too. Turns out I have extremely high blood pressure.

sorehead123 · 04/08/2023 23:40

Arthursmom · 04/08/2023 23:45

Good luck 🤞🏽

jenny38 · 04/08/2023 23:45

I hope you get the results back quickly and they are reassuring op.

ThreeLocusts · 04/08/2023 23:46

Great the scan is done OP. You'll muddle through with Google translate and the hospital staff's English - someone must know some.

In my experience too French healthcare is good. It's unsurprising that you are scared, but chances are you'll be fine. Back with your kids and enjoying your holiday. Flowers

Salome61 · 04/08/2023 23:47

Good luck, I really hope it is something very simple.

My Mum had a brain hemorrhage and was in absolute agony. It happened when she was visiting my grandma and they took her up to bed, she could only lie down with a flannel over her eyes and was groaning it hurt so much.

Zonder · 04/08/2023 23:49

How scary. I hope you get results soon.

golddustwomen · 04/08/2023 23:50

Hope you get some results soon op. Thinking of you.

Medstudent12 · 04/08/2023 23:53

Doctor here. No advice over mumsnet but well done for going to hospital, they’ll want to rule out a sub arachnoid haemorrhage. It’s super rare but the sudden massive headache is a red flag. We see lots, very very rare that they’re ever actually a sub arach. Better safe than sorry, this will pass and you will get through all the tests and hopefully be sent on your way soon x

Catlady38 · 04/08/2023 23:57

When my sister had a brain haemorrhage, she was violently sick, the pain was so bad. I’m not a doctor, obviously, but I think (I hope) you’d know if it was that. It’s much more likely to be something far less serious, I think — 111 have to err on the side of caution. I hope you’re okay, OP, and get the treatment/support you need. Thinking of you. X

sorehead123 · 04/08/2023 23:58

@Medstudent12 thank you so much for this. I'm very frightened right now and your post is reassuring. I've just had some morphine so hopefully a bit of relief at least. My head is pounding.

I've been through a bit of a scare recently with bad headaches. Convinced myself if the worst but all clear thank god. Really hope you are ok OP. Handhold from Wales x
