I will be applying for this.
How long does the process take so I have time to buy a new car
Do you get the £2k plus the actual scrappage value of your car which in my case would be about £500?
Thanks

Ulez scrappage scheme extended to all Londoners

Sadiq Khan's decision comes after the Labour Party's by-election loss in Uxbridge last month.

So you don’t technically have to buy a new car with it?
I assumed it was a discount off a new car.

No you don’t. You’ll get some offers for things like Santander Bikes and car hire vouchers.

So if your car is worth more than two thousand pounds e.g. three thousand pounds I thought you sold it and then gave proof of sale and got the extra two thousand to help with the cost of a compliant reliable car. Is this not how it works??

I left my vehicle at the scrap dealer on Saturday, they issued the certificate of destruction to me on Tuesday. I uploaded to TFL and they say they'll process it within 10 days.
Then they send a cheque (so will take time to post and pay in too).

Need to allow a month really for the process. Slow but no dealing with tyre kickers.

No it isn’t how it works. You have to hand your car over to the authorised scrap dealer and they issue the certificate and you then claim.

Did you get the scrap value of your car as well as the 2 thousand?

My vehicle didn't have any scrap value according to the scrap place I used, so no, but the terms of the TFL scrappage scheme are that you do get the scrap value from the scrap yard.

VacMann · 12/08/2023 09:35

@Rollercoaster1920 Is there a list of scrappage places online that can be used?
I'm surprised that any vehicle would have zero scrap value

Yes. You need to use a licensed scrap place, the gov licences them and there is a government search website.

The costs of getting rid of non recycling materials is high. Also the cost of storing and stripping down any usable parts. My vehicle has very little metal in it.

On the ULEZ website it says that you can take all cash or take less cash and get one 'adult-rate Annual Bus & Tram Pass.'
ie

Grant payment options
For cars, motorcycles and wheelchair accessible cars or vans there are eight grant payment options:

  • Scrap a car - £2,000
  • Scrap a car - £1,600 plus one adult-rate Annual Bus & Tram Pass

If you take one 'adult-rate Annual Bus & Tram Pass ', does it have to be in the name of the car owner (in my case that would be me) or can it be in someone else's name (in my case can it be my wife)?
