NHS recruitment

Been offered a nhs job 6 weeks ago, everything on the system trac says complete (dbs was holding it up) but it's now sorted. I emailed recruitment to see what happens next. They responded with will be in touch about next steps in due course.

Can anyone tell me what the hold up is and how long due course is?

(Apologies for any grammar or spelling mistakes I'm dyslexic)

What is the role?

Moose657 · 03/08/2023 17:58

@stayclosetoyourself a apprenticeship as a HCA.

my advice, chase everything up, daily! NHS recruitment is awful, very very slow and very inefficient. The role Im currently in, I had to chase verything so many times. And it still took months to actually het started. When I had been in my new role for a week I got an email from HR asking me if I was rrady to agree a starting date LOL This did though alert me to the fact I hadnt been set up on pay role and I nearly didnt get paid for my first month.

I'm sure you have to get in touch with manager to arrange a start date or they get in touch with you.

Blackbyrd · 03/08/2023 18:09

Congratulations on your new job OP. But it drives me mad on behalf of clients how bloody useless NHS and Civil Service recruitment are. They complain about being short staffed, make people account for every breath they took for the last five years on their application forms, make them participate in often ridiculous interview procedures then can't even get successful applicants in role quickly. What the hell do these HR departments do all day?

Moose657 · 03/08/2023 18:14

The only contact I have is recruitment! I have no idea who my manager is due to it being a apprenticeship, I think there is a few of us starting so I think training is going to be together. I really would like it to go from a conditional offer to unconditional as at least I know I definitely have the job!

OP posts:
stayclosetoyourself · 03/08/2023 18:32

Sorry I don't know but E mails to staffing can be slow as various people pick them up and don't know what others have said/ done sometimes do I would suggest calling.

ElizabethBest · 03/08/2023 18:40

It’ll be for a trust induction date. It takes aaaaages

Moose657 · 03/08/2023 18:56

Thanks all! I do know that the start date is already confirmed for 4 weeks time as there is going to be a few of us starting for 6 weeks of classroom based training due to the apprenticeship. I just would like to know I definitely have the job

Ailsamary · 03/08/2023 18:59

If you have been notified of when the start date is then surely this means you have a job.

And yes the NHS has always been notoriously slow

BarbedButterfly · 03/08/2023 19:00

Look for a contact for the apprenticeship team

Moose657 · 03/08/2023 19:03

@Ailsamary they told us the start date before the interviews!

OP posts:
stayclosetoyourself · 03/08/2023 21:25

Have they told you the outcome of the interview? (Sorry if I missed it )

Moose657 · 03/08/2023 21:32

@stayclosetoyourself yes interview was 6 weeks ago, was given a conditional offer based on references, dbs and occupational health.
Which the system my trust uses for recruitment reckons everything is complete.

Chase them constantly and don't worry about making a bad impression by being annoying, it's all totally separate to where you will be working.
Obviously I don't mean be rude but don't just be embarrassed to chase them, no doubt the department you're going to knows exactly what they're like and finds them frustrating too

ArabianGulf2Surrey · 04/08/2023 06:36

It's summer, so maybe the person that's supposed to follow up is on annual leave?

Londonnight · 04/08/2023 06:52

I agree with chasing them. I had to do this when I was offered a job in the NHS so I knew when to hand my notice in on the job I was doing. NHS seems to take forever to do start dates once you are offered the job.
You will have to do an induction before starting and these only seem to be once a month, so if you miss the cut off, you'll have to wait until the next month.

lastminutewednesday · 04/08/2023 07:26

I got offered a job in the nhs and the recruitment took so long-11 weeks!-That in the meantime I got offered something else and I ended up taking it. It really put me off as I know my references were sent promptly and there was no issue with them. It was just slow responses between HR and the team manager. No wonder they have a crisis in staffing!

Moose657 · 04/08/2023 07:59

Thank all, it's just so frustrating.

OP posts:
stayclosetoyourself · 04/08/2023 08:14

Oh yes that's an offer then , they always say conditional on those things. It's just to tick the Occie health etc boxes but they have offered you the job. Did you e mail back you accepted ?
I know what you mean, I remember I thought similar with my last post but it's just how they word it.

stayclosetoyourself · 04/08/2023 08:16

Have you been cleared by OH? If you've filled the form often they don't even see you these days. And e mail to ask if references were ok.
But I would consider the apprenticeship/ job yours. Good luck!

CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease · 04/08/2023 08:20

I'd say you've definitely got it. NHS is slow with recruitment, what they do is they train a group of people together rather than one person at a time so if someone else in the group is still waiting for dbs references etc it holds it up for all in the group

Moose657 · 04/08/2023 18:22

Finally got it all confirmed, and they are gonna send unconditional offer next week

OP posts:
FooFighter99 · 04/08/2023 18:47

They’re all probably on annual leave! It’s August, peak A/L time for NHS.
