What the hell is growing on my eyelid? (Photo) Should I be worried?

I’m concerned about this lump on my eyelid

It started out as a small spot and has gotten bigger over the past 6 weeks

I’ve used warm compresses and tried dapping salicylic acid on it to help but nothing is working

I called my GP and the receptionist told me to go to the opticians because it’s on my eyelid (my sight is fine)
However there are no optician appointments until the end of August!

For context I’m 38 weeks pregnant and have never had anything like this before

Anyone had something similar? How did you fix it?

I would go to a and e

Why? It is neither an accident nor an emergency.

Yes I would go back to the doctors and insist on an appointment.

Optician is better placed, more skilled and has better equipment than the GP. The GP is right that the optician is more appropriate. If you phone up and explain and ask about the urgent nature, most opticians now are on the scheme to see eye problems same day, and can refer onto eye casualty if needed.

Because its on the eye snd growing. My gp refereed me to an eye clinic who wouldn't touch it, opticians didn't have equipment and in desperation I went to hospital who surgically removed. Your local hospital should have an urgent care clinic perhaps.

I had one of these when I was pregnant!

i never knew what it was but since this thread I know that it was a pyogenic granuloma!
Mine was on my chest and cleared up once I had the baby.

ADHDDDDDDDBOOM · 03/08/2023 07:14

Just to warn you OP if it is a pyogenic granuloma, if you claw it off, it grows right back.
i speak from experience.
it literally has its only little blood supply.

Some of the replies are useful but I wouldn't go into an opticians and demand to be seen regardless they have full clinics with patients and may turn you away (saying that end of August is ridiculous! We normally have spots within the next two days) but most areas have this minor eye condition service so try ringing around a few or if you Google it ,the practices participating in the scheme will show up in a list closest to you etc. We would probably refer you routinely/soon as you are pregnant anyway via GP as there's nothing we can do except look at it under magnification with the slit lamp. GP can still refer you via Dermo route too as it's skin related. Good luck with the rest of the pregnancy!

Absolutely. I had managed to shrink it flat several times, but it grew right back. Only an excision, by a dermatologist, got rid of it.
