Would your mum have been on Mumsnet, if it had been around in her younger days?

I'm absolutely convinced my mum would have been on here, and probably got into lots of arguments on AIBU because she was very opinionated in her 30s/40s.

Does anyone else feel the same?

Absolutely not. My mum just about manages Facebook, which she categorically has no interest in and barely goes on, despite being all over everything on it 😂

MrsMoastyToasty · 03/08/2023 22:00

My 85 year old DM uses Facebook and messenger since yes I guess she would.

mildlydispeptic · 03/08/2023 22:09

I often wish my poor isolated mum had had MN in her day. A rousing chorus of LTB and some solidarity would have been a game changer.

No because she knows it all and always has.

Ha! This is my DM entirely. Though she'd relish the opportunity to tell everyone exactly why they were wrong about everything.

Dacadactyl · 03/08/2023 22:16

No. It wouldn't have been for my mum.

Although she LOVES dolling out her opinions every which way, she wouldn't be bothered to do it online.

RoyalImpatience · 03/08/2023 22:20

Unfortunately she's passed away but my god.

Had mn been around when alive... It would have changed her and my life and helped her with all her problems.... So much.

Legally, emotionally... In every way, money etc..

PenguiInaThong · 03/08/2023 22:24

Probably saying she regrets having kids lol

Emmamoo89 · 03/08/2023 22:28

Nope she told me to keep off it as she knows all the shit I've had from aholes. To not pay attention to it.

Yes. And she would have been a right laugh but also would find herself being banned eventually I think.

I remember introducing her to a chat room circa 2002. She had already had a few drinks and thought it was hilarious to chose the name "Pat" as a username (her real name was a lot more unusual and exotic). Then she basically catfished a bloke who said he was a 45 year old baker from Wisconsin by pretending to be a 70 year old woman who was travelling the world spending all her dead husband's money.

I was 13 and so embarrassed and trying to tell her about internet safety etc. but all she did was lie to this bloke all night then ghosted him. Then she never showed any interest in going on the internet ever again.

This is absolutely brilliant 🤩 your mum sounds like such a character!

KingTriton · 03/08/2023 23:18

No mine wouldn't. She isn't interested in listening to any one else's views and thinks she knows it all!

CurlewKate · 03/08/2023 23:50

Probably. She had a fantastic group of women friends and I'm sure she would have enjoyed online friendships too.

Sounds like she'd have fitted right in to be fair!

Mine would and probably is on here!

papasmurfdontpreach · 04/08/2023 09:17

Yes! My mum would be a regular on AIBU but would have changed every story so that she is clearly the victim and everyone else in her life is obviously the unreasonable one. Also would be full of stealth boasts and then flounced if anyone dared to point out that others may have a different opinion.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 04/08/2023 18:04

No, she'd have been too busy. She was a single mum, worked full-time, long hours, and was a shop steward for her union and active in the local Labour Party.

You've made me think - imagine the threads there'd have been about Thatcher in the 80s!

She'd have blistered the screen with her opinions on Thatcher! 😆

Not unless Mum was run by The Catholic Herald and promised death and destruction to anyone using contraception. She would have liked the recipes, especially the ones about how to make a chicken last a month.
