My friend has a birthday in a few weeks however it is also very likely that their parent will pass shortly. We don’t really do gifts anymore however they’ve had an incredibly tough year already and I want to do something for them.
Was thinking along the lines of something they can use to treat themselves with in the future however don’t have a huge budget at the moment (£50 absolute maximum). I can’t think of anything at all, any ideas?

If you live close enough to do this, I'd make some nice meals that they can pop in the freezer for when they don't feel up to cooking/thinking about what to make, but need something to eat. I'd probably buy a nice indoor plant (if they like plants) and take over some portions of something yummy but relatively healthy like lasagne for the freezer.

It was my friends birthday on Sunday, her dad is likely to pass this week, it’s a terrible situation l took her some flowers and gave her a hug and when we hugged she cried and cried, later on she text me to say the hug was the best gift she had received.

i think if you don’t do gifts anymore just do something small and simple and save your money for something you can do together after her parent dies and she needs someone's compassion and time.

You sound like a lovely thoughtful friend.
