Using pizza oven in the rain.

Have organised a large family gathering this weekend.
Bought a good, portable pizza oven to make pizzas as and when guests arrived. Gazebo in garden - deckchairs, salads and usual summer party vibe.
However, the weather is probably going to be awful! Rain most of the day forecast. We can be inside but will have to rethink food. My query is….
has anybody used a pizza oven under a gazebo? Is it safe, did it smoke terribly? Any ideas for making this work please?

Is it gas or wood chip powered?
I think as long as it’s not too close to the gazebo it might be ok.
Word of warning though it can take a while to get going and if it only does 1 pizza at a time there may be a lot of hungry people standing around
I hope the rain holds off/eases for you

Our pizza oven heats up in 15 mins and takes about 30 seconds to cook one pizza. So for a party, I get all bases ready -pizza with cheese and tomato sauce on most with a few bases empty incase people prefer without cheese or tomato. Then I have the topping in pots in the fridge. When guests arrvie, I lifgttthe pizza oven (set the timer) and then get them to top their individual pizza. Only a few people get finished within those 15 mins! Theirs go in first, one by one and then the others. People love to stand and watch the pizza oven so it’s all good fun. I have used it in a light drizzle but not in heavy rain. The things you need to sure on: don’t risk carp on monoxide poisoning, make sure there is no fire risk under the gazebo and finally you do not want water to get onto the stone inside the oven.

@Fushia123 Wood fired like an Ooni will have a chimney if it is portable then it is possibly gas which won't have a chimney and will therefore not send up a concentrated plume of hot air.

We have a wood fired Ooni. I make the pizzas and Dh cooks them. He has a temperature gun which is very helpful and it has to be at 400c to cook the pizza, there is a wait time after each cooked pizza of about 5 minutes to get it back up to temperature. This is because you open the door every 15 seconds to turn the pizza. The pizza takes between 1 minute to 1 minute 30 to cook.

Gas fired ones don't have a door so no drop in temperature and a constant supply of fuel. I think Dh would say yes to a gas fired one and yes but with serious care for a wood fired one. There are lots of gazobos for pizza ovens, have a google.

Thanks. It is Woody Pizza Oven with chimney. It will be fuelled by wood pellets and kindling.
It would be wonderful to use it outside under our gazebo - hexagonal with mesh sides and doors. Need advice on whether it’s possible and safe.

The wood pellets need to be really really dry, that might be your biggest challenge.

Is it enclosed with the mesh sides on all sides? Like you I too would be worried about the safety of it - more the CO poisoning than fire risk - and honestly it's a tough one due to "particle" size of the CO and type of mesh. How big and how many doors are there? Enough to make sure there's a proper airflow through the gazebo? Can you place it next to one of the open doors?

Fushia123 · 02/08/2023 18:05

Yes. It’s got mesh sides that open and fold back.
I think I’ve solved the problem. 🤞
I’ve borrowed an additional ordinary style gazebo that we are going to put almost next to our blue one, with the pizza oven in between. Chimney to be in the small space of fresh air between them! Do you that will work?
