Family room or double for mum and child?

Travelodge family room seems a waste when he will want to sleep in the big bed with me but will the hotel allow it? He's 8. Whenever we book a hotel room when it's the 3 of us (me cabs 2 children) he always ends up in with me because his sister always claims the single bed by the window. Does anyone know if it will be an issue to book a double room for my son and I? It's only one night.

Of course, it's 2 people which is the capacity of the room, why on earth not ?

Well that was my thought too but when I went to book if I enter 1 adult and 1 child it automatically changes to a family room..

It should definitely be fine. You don't really want to pay more if its just the two of you and he's not very old.

Just book for two adults. Doesn’t really matter.

Of course you can book a double for two people. They don't care how you're related.

Travelodge does always default to family room if you have any children with you, so I presume they want those rooms allocated to families. They’re usually in a different area than the doubles

I just tested it out on the Travelodge site and you're right. The price difference was very small though, but like the others say you could just book for 2 adults if you want the double.

The family rooms don’t usually cost more but if you want breakfast you won’t get the free child one unless you book them as a child!

I once had to book a double for just me and 11 year old DS as they said that’s all they had. It’s fine to book for you and 8 year old DS.

The price was not much difference at all but no free breakfast if I book as two adults. It seems wrong to take a family room when I don't need it. Many a time I've tried to book our favourite seaside Travelodge when there's been 3 of us and no family rooms were available.

Thank you.
