Has anyone learned to sing as an adult? If so, how? What kind of improvement did you see? Am I insane for wanting to try?!

I'd love to sing better, I practice in the car and keep meaning to check if there are any podcasts or free apps that offer tips... might do that now!

I booked a series of singing lessons after I retired. I wouldn't say it hugely improved my singing but it really improved my confidence.

Join a choir!! It'll bring an immeasurable joy to your life, and your singing will improve each time you practice.

Amazing! Was it scary singing in front of the teacher though? I'm not sure I'd be brave enough....

I'd love this, but 100% need a total transformation before I could sing in front of a group. Just getting a handle on public speaking, but think singing confidence would definitely help!

The joy of a choir is that you're not 'singing in front of a group' you are blending in.

I sing in a band - my voice is good enough (rock-style), but I recently started vocal coaching with a tutor who specialises in my style and it has made a HUGE difference, particularly in terms of my power and tone.

I have a lot of friends who are musicians and music teachers, and they all agree that the vast majority of people can be taught to be better at something: talent is inborn, yes, but skill is learned and actual 'tone deafness' is so vanishingly rare that it's practically not a thing.

Most singing coaches will be happy to help beginners get to a 'base level' - also learning to read music so that you can sight-read is a really useful skill - then you can, if you so choose, find another tutor (or band, or choir!) that specialises in your style to help you progress.

Good luck! Singing is ace.
