Does this water bottle even exist?!

GetMeToThePark · 01/08/2023 22:14

One of those small but increasingly irritating things.

DP, DD3 and I all need new water bottles. Our current ones are driving me nuts as they’re hand wash only and as with all good intentions it just never gets done as much as I’d like. I just need something I can (actually and fully) bung in the dishwasher, lid, body and all and let it do its thing.

I’m currently in a bit of an overwhelmed phase and trying to simplify life. If I can help it anything that enters our house right now is going straight back out if it can’t be machine or dish washed, air fried or slow cooked!

(Not adding Milton sterilising to my mental load either right now before anyone suggests it, but thank you)

BUT in addition to being fully dishwasher safe it also needs to have a free-flow straw (not those bite down straws like Camelbak, we tried and all couldn’t get on with them) and ideally over 700ml.

I’ve ordered a couple of different ones off Amazon but despite the descriptions being ‘dishwasher safe’ they arrive and the instructions suggest otherwise or you find out only the lid is! 😩

Any help welcome, thank you! x

They've changed the colours slightly but here you go. Oh and there isn't a straw BUT it's trigger action using a big button on the front. It means no leaking. Sadly built in straws tend to leak

Why do you "need" a water bottle?

Why does a 3 year old "need" a water bottle?

AlfietheSchnauzer · 01/08/2023 23:49

Top rack dishwasher safe 👍🏻

BertieBotts · 01/08/2023 23:52

The straw is the problem. You can wash most things in a dishwasher whether they say they are safe or not, but straws always get gunk stuck inside them.

My advice would be to look for something that has the option to buy separate straws and buy a whole load of spare ones so you can wash the bottles in the dishwasher and just save the straws up and wash them all at once.

imbolic · 01/08/2023 23:58

We have always used Nalgene water bottles. They don't have sophisticated accoutrements like straws, but they are really tough, last for years and years and you can bung them in the dishwasher.

This is just a crazy fad - no one needs to be carrying around water! It is perfectly possible just to wait until you are next by a tap!

This silly idea that humans need to keep "hydrating" throughout the day is just an invention of the advertisers for the bottled water industry - we never drank water during the day! Maybe at lunch time, but often not even then. We never desiccated!!!!

Mate, give it a rest! I carry a big bottle because - gasp - I can be out all day nowhere near a tap!

These. I've no idea if they say dishwasher safe, but DH and I have had ours for 5+ years and they go in the dishwasher each week. They come with 2 lids, one a stainless steel screw top and a second plastic free flow straw. No.leaks. 750ml.

@Ollybob stainless steel would be fine! I should probably have mentioned budget though as we’re needing 3 so was thinking more around £20ish mark

These look great, definitely something to aspire to! 😅

Always lots in tkmaxx to choose from we have nice stainless ones with dilly rrp gor £6.99 ea. As pp say Contigo are v good. Watch the back to school at aldi as well. We have a fake contigo from there that is great in the dishwasher.

Costco and TKMaxx also good shouts for where to look in future. Thank you to those who suggested.
went with the Typo ones for now as low price to try out and see how we go. Will upgrade as we need or get a second so we can cycle them.

What a load of tripe. Honestly, trolling over water. What about those who work all day away from home/no office space such as engineers, farmers etc. Are they not to drink all day just because you don’t. Just because you don't, doesn't mean that others shouldn't.

It's a big thing in schools these days. "Make sure your child brings their water bottle to school ".

Surely it's better to encourage this than rotten teeth drinking fizzy drinks? Best to start the habit as early as possible so that water is the first drink to drink regularly out of a bottle.

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 02/08/2023 07:13

We have these, me and DH have the bigger ones kids have the smaller ones, they keep drinks brilliantly cold and don't taste metallic iykwim

Vettrianofan · 02/08/2023 07:18

I drink water out of a bottle every day even at home. But it's handy when on an outing as it's right there if you need it.

Hopefully you find the right ones for you OP and your family. Lots of great suggestions already 🙂

Sort of but its quite difficult to get in 2l a day of liquid (doesnt need to be water) if you dont work at it

If I dont have that sort of volume, (or more reasonable is 1.5l) and its regularly spaced throughout the day rather than just as it would be when I would be near a tap so to speak, my urine is darker than advised

If I drink throughout the day then its almost see through

helpfulperson · 02/08/2023 07:47

I only use when I'm out hiking for the day. Otherwise I don't drink water during the day - the tide is turning on the constant need to drink with more studies showing there is no benefit. But this is the one I use and it just goes in the dishwasher.

Do you mean you dont drink water during the day, or do you mean you dont drink any liquid during the day?

Liquid intake does not have to be made up of water.

Throughabushbackwards · 02/08/2023 07:58

We have Contigo swish autoseal bottles that are fine in the dishwasher. Ours have lasted well.

GloriousSludge · 02/08/2023 08:09

I have had some of these for over ten years - replaced lids once but bottle itself is dented and scratched (used all through primary school) but leak free and still going. Paint does start to come
off if dishwashered a lot, but that’s just cosmetic.

Lots of different lid options, some of which work with straws.

Mate, give it a rest! I carry a big bottle because - gasp - I can be out all day nowhere near a tap!

so what?

This is what I mean?

This was completely normal life, until the big international bottled water companies started advertising, and the whole world apparently fell for it.

Are you 30s or under? If you were my age you would have gone to school without a water bottle, drinking fountains, or anything of that ilk.

My primary school had no drinking water available for several years, so we left for school around 8 ish, and got home about 4.30 every day, and had nothing to drink in that time - there was the occasional grumble, but nobody thought it was a particular issue, and nobody "dehydrated" 😂

I can't even remember what we did at secondary - I don't remember water NOT being available, but I don't think I or anyone I was with ever bothered with it.

These days I probably have a cup of coffee in the morning, at work, then possibly make a pot of coffee when I get home in the evening - I have never "dehydrated" in my life-

This is a modern fad, unnecessary, but harmless, as far as it goes, but I can't get over seeing people claim they "need" a water bottle.

They want a water bottle to join in this unnecessary faddish behaviour but no one NEEDS one, unless they are setting off to climb a mountain or something.

QuestionableMouse · 02/08/2023 09:10

So what?

I do physical work and get thirsty? I like to have a drink with me?

What a weird thing to get cross over!

I'm 38 and we were given plenty of drinks in primary school. Also has a water fountain we could use.
