Best restaurant/hotel you’ve been to

Looking for somewhere special for my DH’s big birthday next year.

Where is the best place you’ve ever been?

Anywhere between Manchester as the most northern and the south coast (Bournemouth/Portsmouth area) as furthest south. Otherwise it’s not doable in a weekend!

Is this for the two of you or a big party? Do you want cosy romantic or chic / modern / urban?

DuvetCoverNightmare · 01/08/2023 21:47

Just us two and honestly don’t mind as long as it’s luxurious and the food is good!

The Waterside Inn, Bray, Berkshire. 3 Michelin stars for over 30 years! If you like French food and wine it's the best youll find in the UK.You can stay too.....

It's around the corner from the Fat Duck (not my thing at all) and also Heston Blumenthals Michelin starred pub - Bray has soooo many Michelin stars!

Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, fabulous in every aspect.

amicissimma · 01/08/2023 22:22

Another vote for The Waterside. It's really expensive but every detail is perfect.

Hbh17 · 01/08/2023 22:34

Claridges.
Also Le Manoir for food (haven't stayed there).

Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, fabulous in every aspect.

Agree 100%

I’m so glad Le Manoir is so highly recommended, that was my first choice but wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything else!

Will definitely check out the Waterside too, might squeeze it for my birthday.

also have a look at Moor Hall in Aughton Lancashire. Britain’s best restaurant. Unbelievably good. Lovely rooms too (they’re building tree houses but don’t think they’re ready yet). It’s a tasting menu. Very very expensive but an absolute experience.

Crug glas south wales is lovely and special, not sure of driving time, not much different to Bournemouth I'm guessing

Pedallleur · 03/08/2023 20:27

Loved Le Manoir but they went to a 2 night minimum so I wouldn't go. Waterside was stunning when I went some years ago. Le Gavroche in London is on my list and I am a fan of the Walnut Tree in Abergavenny. Same chef for years and they have rooms.

Oblomov23 · 03/08/2023 20:36

I want to go to Manoir and Bray.

The Grove, Narberth in West Wales. The service is just impeccable. Like being at a very well run country house party rather than a hotel. So, so lovely.

C1N1C · 03/08/2023 20:44

Shard tasting menu was excellent, and great view

DuvetCoverNightmare · 04/08/2023 10:15

Wales and Lancs are too far for the weekend unfortunately but will bear in mind if we’re ever that way!

Ooh Le Gavroche could be a good shout actually!
