Walkable Market Town or Suburb with Train?

If you love where you live AND live in a market town or suburb with a train station where someone could happily live without a car (walkable), where are you located and what things do you love about it?

Thanks!

Good point. Not London prices.

A 2 bed bungalow with tired decor £180 - £280k

A 3 bed terrace with tired decor - £150 - £250

Hope this gives a ballpark. I'd say most places like this are probably in the North or Midlands.

I don't live there, but Market Harborough fits the bill

Saltaire in West Yorkshire. 15 mins on the train to Leeds and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's a lovely place to live.

I don't live there but Morpeth, Northumberland. Not far on the train to Newcastle and a lovely little town with great schools.

Newark on Trent, station, easily walkable town centre, cycle paths if you want to cycle.

Where I am but you'd need double the budget

gogomoto · 01/08/2023 17:12

Stations really push prices up, if there's a regular bus service you might find something more affordable

Thirsk, Yarm, Northallerton or I think Ripon all fit the bill. Pretty market towns, with trains (Yarm isn't direct to London but within a mile of Eaglescliffe which is). All friendly, in budget, good schools, community activities, lots of restaurants etc. All could probably be lived in without a car depending on what you do for work, Thirsk is a bit smaller and more remote so I'm not so sure you'd want to be car free there though.

Manningtree is lovely, but expensive because of proximity to london.
