Travelling to Dublin tomorrow with a friends
We get there at 3pm and come home Friday at 10pm
We need bus to hotel and back to airport plus meals etc
We have already booked a few tourist attractions so that's not included
I've heard it's expensive
How much spending money would you take ?

If you’re purely taking food and drinks and the odd bits you could manage on £80-100 a day I’d say. It is an expensive city but really depends on what you’re eating and drinking, like everywhere there are cheaper places. Just look stuff up before you go, check menus etc.
If money no issue then skys the limit!
Do have a drink in The Back on College Green, it’s lovely and smack bang in the middle of town.

The Bank

I think our plan is to grab a breakfast on the morning (sausage etc ) then for lunch just a sandwich from subway (something quick ) then on the night have a pub meal
We do want to do temple bar but have heard it's pricy so will limit that to 1 drink in there
Maybe a nice cocktail somewhere too

Go for an Irish fry for breakfast!
don’t go to chain places you can get in England (presuming that’s where you’re from!) the spar shops in Dublin are next level, you can get a great cheap ish lunch there then go sit in a park.
yes temple bar is expensive, and there are better places but you have to have at least one drink there!
i had a lovely Bloody Mary with oysters last time I was at the bank, not sure what other cocktails they do!

Nobody can answer this - it's like how long is a piece of string! But do you need any actual cash? I would expect that you could pay by card for everything - maybe €50 for taxi or as back up, and then play it by ear.

You don’t need to take any money, just a debit card or Apple pay!

Tonightmatthewimgoingtobeeee · 01/08/2023 11:59

Oh yeah deffo going to get a Irish breakfast
Oh no I don't mean actual cash -I'm thinking of topping up my travel card with money and then bringing 100 euros just for anything that may be cash only

You may be able to eat breakfast in your hotel, but in generally a fry out will cost about 12/15 euro each.
A cheap lunch/subway/mcdonalds will cost about 25 eurocfor both of you.
Eating out at night is dependant on where you go, there are some great burger places here or chicken wing places, you'll be in and out and cost about 40/50 for 2 people, or if your going to a restaurant you'll easily drop 100+. In terms of drinking only you know what you drink, a cocktail will cost at least 15 euro each. A pint in temple bar will be about 8/9 and a pint in a bog stand bar will be no less than 6.50 but I'm seeing the usual price is about 7 each, pack of smokes is about 16 euro, taxis's are expensive so expect about 10 euro at the least for a 5 minute job so upwards of that. There is also the night link you could get, but to be honest the city centre is rough enough these days so maybe just jump in a taxi if you can, we usually leave the pub a bit earlier to miss the crowds leaving to get one

msmonstera · 01/08/2023 12:11

Avoid Temple Bar; it's for tourists really and has also become quite rough. Try O'Neills on Suffolk st for a pub dinner. I'd say €100 per day per person but it depend how much you drink as that is pricey.

This. We all have different ideas about what is affordable and a sensible use of money. One person's 20 euro cocktail in a fancy bar is another person's evening meal including drinks or even food budget for the week.

Plus I'd expect most bars in Dublin to be card only, so at this late stage I'd be checking out the charges the cards I have all make for overseas spending so I don't inadvertedly use one that charges me £3 plus a cut of the exchange rate each time I buy a coffee or a beer.

mast0650 · 01/08/2023 12:18

I'd just take my debit card and decide how much I wanted/needed to spend when I got there. It obviously depends hugely on your own income and tastes. But I cant see it being much different from spending a couple of days in London?

Tonightmatthewimgoingtobeeee · 01/08/2023 14:01

I think I'm going to budget around £400
We have the zoo, cityseeing bus already booked so no need to fork out for that
