It’s a car insurance one

DH had to claim on his insurance earlier this year for a collision in a car park where both parties were found at fault. We’re renewing our policy and running some details through compare the market. Usually we are both insured on both cars, but I’ve driven his car once in the last 12 months & he has driven mine maybe a handful of times

I’m getting quotes for £500 for the year just for me

His quotes are £1400 for the year just for him, with me as a named driver.

We’re trying to get a multi car quote but whilst we await that, there’s not much point doing that if it takes the policy cost to 1900 and splitting the cost evenly when mine is so much cheaper surely? Or am I being unreasonable? We both earn similarly

His quote is just for him but you say it includes you as a named driver?

Tbh I'm not sure whether you are asking about car insurance here if how your household bills should be spilt. It seems like you want to juts pay for you and have him pay for him and if that's how you normally work your insurance then fine, but if are you asking if it comes from a family bill pot and you are looking to change it?

Sorry I am not the best at picking things up

How do you normally pay it?

Yes as pp I’m not really sure what you’re asking? If you’re on his insurance as a named driver that usually makes the quote less not more? So without you his insurance would maybe be more? Is his insurance much higher than yours usually (for other reasons like occupation, ncb, etc) or is it just because of the claim?

@rorotheo I think you need to have a think about how you split finances and would you be happy to foot the higher premium if the shoe was on the other foot? Or are you only complaining because you are expected to help your husband pay his increased costs?

Once Dh and I were married and before actually when we were living together, everything was split between us. It didn't matter if my car insurance was more expensive as I learned to drive later than Dh did so my premiums were higher. We split all shared costs. Having 2 cars was a shared cost. This isn't about car insurance really.

Is his claim still open, has the case been resolved and the file closed?

An "open" claim on your policy at renewal will absolutely cripple you.
