Having a washing machine fitted upstairs in a large cupboard next to bathroom.

Had 2 plumbers out

One said he can connect the washers waste water to the baths waste water pipe (bath is right next to where washer would be through a wall)

The 2nd said its too risky to have the washers waste water to go to the baths waste water pipe and he would have to fit a waste pipe through the external wall to the drainage system outside

Does anyone know which is true?

He said the risk of a leak is too much but I'm sure my washing machine now is connected to the kitchen sinks waste water pipe? 🤔

2nd one is talking bollocks. Unless you're regularly doing 90° washes (don't think machines can even do those anymore) there's no danger of a leak.

But drilling through a wall is bank for an easy job.

I can't see why that would be a problem, it is fairly standard to group the drainage of various things into a joint pipe before going outside. Maybe the pipe is a bit small, in which case avoid emptying the bath while the washing machine is emptying to avoid the water backing up, but other than that I think it should be OK.

My washing machine is upstairs in my bathroom - drains through the same as the shower. New build 2018

Is the angle of the existing waste pipe steep enough to ensure a good flow of water down by gravity? I've seen some waste pipes that are actually horizontal for a short length between the bath and the "big" downward soil pipe - plumbing in a washing machine to a horizontal or near horizontal pipe could well cause water to flow backwards into the bath if not much height difference.

@PigletJohn is a fount of knowledge. 🤞He'll see this and post some advice for you.

In a kitchen, you have room inside or behind the cabinets to fit a standpipe or use a sink waste that has a purpose-made spigot on it. Bath wastes do not have spigots, and there might not be room to run elegant pipework. If you were to connect it under the bath, water might come up into the bath, which you would not like. Sink wastes usually drop down so this should not happen, but bath wastes may be nearly horizontal.

Do you have a soil pipe in the corner of the bathroom, or do the waste pipes run outside to a gulley or hopper? Is the soil pipe iron or plastic?

Running it through the wall might look better if it avoids extra pipes In the bathroom.
