NHS band 6 part time wage

Hi all,

I've searched the internet and can't find an answer. Does anyone know what a part time wage is for band 6, first pay point, 22.5 hours.

Successfully got through interview and offered a job - currently band 5 on nights. Now I'm wondering if I'll be taking a pay drop to become band 6. Current take home is £1550 a month for 23 hours since the pay rise.

Like I said I've tried searching the internet to find d this answer but I've drawn up short

You’re lucky. Out trust won’t give band 6s to part timers. You’ll have to find your hourly rate and work it out I think.

Hi

I am band 6 on 23 hours a week. I've been doing it for a year so am still on the first bit of the pay progression ladder. I do a couple of nights a month and maybe one or two Saturdays, but sometimes none!

My monthly take home pay is anything from £1500-£1600 a month generally. This month was £1400 but that one was lower because they messed up my pension the previous month Sad

Congratulations by the way! Flowers

If you don't mind me asking, what pay point are you on?

I've been head hunted, and it's a clinical nurse specialist rather than a ward sister. Generally in our hospital ward sisters are only employed full time or 0.80 of the role.
Clinical nurse specialists they will dish out the role to a certain number of WTE

I don't know the numbers, but:
Full time wage ×22.5/full time hours

Then somewhere like thesalarycalculator with your pension contributions and any student loans to get takehome.

I don't know the exact figures, but going from top band 5 with unsocial hours to bottom band 6 working Mon-Fri you'll almost certainly see at least a slight drop in pay initially, until you move up a pay point in 2 years. There is only a very slight increase in basic pay and it will be cancelled out by losing the unsocial hours. If you can absorb the drop it will be worth it in the long run though as you'll be able to keep moving up pay points rather than being stuck at top band 5.

@whattobuy4 I've been a band 6 for just under 2 years so I don't think I've had an increment yet. Realised that with the latest pay rise it's actually £1460, for all the difference £60 makes 😅

NHS AfC pay is widely published. As a nurse, shouldn’t you be able to work out what 80% of a number is and then use a salary calculator to take off tax, NI and pension?

Thats too low!

OP use listen to the taxman website and remember to add 7.7% for pension contributions in the box

bookish83 · 31/07/2023 08:28

@Greenvelvetdress

Sorry just realised you are on the first pay point, ignore me!

Wren77 · 31/07/2023 08:30

There's a website called 'salarybot' that I have used to work out my pro-rata wage (NHS too) it was about £20 out!!

headcheffer · 31/07/2023 08:30

Use the salary calculator website

kweeble · 31/07/2023 08:33

@Bookish83 Last October NHS pension rates were reduced to reflect actual earnings.

Yes that percentage is correct for that wage amount. I'm glad they reduced it as previously was a much higher %

I've already got my answer here thank you, didn't need sarcastic comments Grin

Side issue but some of the comments say they can't get promoted due to part time hours.

Just wanted to make you aware that as a part time worker you have the same rights to promotion and career progression as full time workers. My trust also tried to play that card unsuccessfully.

They may have a say on when those part time hours are if it affects service provision but they cannot refuse you Band 6 purely on the basis of being part time.

Straight from gov.uk website:

Good luck!
