Which month has most reliable weather in Cornwall?

I am trying to book a holiday to Cornwall for next summer but I’m not sure whether early july or mid September will be better weather. We would like to spend a lot of time on the beach so want dry weather.
thanks

June is usually the best month. I live in Cornwall. This year mid-May to mid-June was gorgeous. Since then it's been shit. September can sometimes be nice, but don't bank on it.

You can’t ever guarantee the weather for a beach holiday in the UK , but going on the last few years I’d go for June .

None.

Often school.holidays are dreadful but last year July and August was mainly fabulous.

This year it was April/May/June.

Similar times to the rest of the UK!

If I was booking personally I'd go for June although weather is not guaranteed, long days are, most places are open fully but the main crowds aren't here.

BarbieWorld · 30/07/2023 17:09

I’d go for early September. Not only is it sometimes beautiful and warm in September, it’s also quieter as most of the tourists have left (whereas July is really busy and hectic these days).

Therefore, even if it does rain sometimes you can still get out and about an enjoy rainy beach walks and walks and exploring, whereas in July you would just be stuck in traffic jams in the rain.

I grew up here and September has been my favourite month of the year since I can remember, which makes me think the weather must usually be good (whereas early August has been a wash out most years for at least ten years , leading me to think of it as “the rainy season”).

gingerguineapig · 30/07/2023 17:17

I think May is the best option for anywhere in the UK, but there are no guarantees.

Summersunshineplease · 30/07/2023 17:22

Zero guarantees unfortunately. We don't seem to have seasons anymore

Frenchthing · 30/07/2023 17:30

Oh- you mean reliably good!

Can't help, sorry.

AmbleInAnnBoleyn · 30/07/2023 17:34

Two years ago I would have said second week in September.

Now, not so sure.

HedgesNotFences · 30/07/2023 17:34

May, June, July, August and September.

Paq · 30/07/2023 17:34

Another vote for September.

TheNinthLock · 30/07/2023 17:36

We went first week in June this year. Could not have been luckier with the weather, glorious!

Georgiepud · 30/07/2023 17:53

We have usually been lucky with the weather in June. One August was a wash out.

transformandriseup · 30/07/2023 19:12

None at all sadly. We can have some great weather but each area has it's own microclimate and it's hard to go by the weather forecast. It can be sunny in one place and raining just a mile away. Early September is usually not too bad and we often get a nice April/May.

TeamSleep · 30/07/2023 19:13

Second week in October for the last few years has been lovely!

TeamSleep · 30/07/2023 19:14

Avoid August if you can! Not because of the weather necessary as it was lovely and really really hot last year, but because everywhere is very crowded (unless you like that)

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 30/07/2023 19:15

January - it will be reliably cold and wet. No surprises.

sittingonacornflake · 30/07/2023 19:42

Neither reliable (I live in Cornwall) but I'd go for July so you have the lighter evenings which is useful as so much is outdoors here.

gogomoto · 30/07/2023 19:48

Toss a coin, could be either

Bluevelvetsofa · 30/07/2023 19:49

We’ve been in June and it was beautiful. We’ve been in August and it was mixed. We’ve been in September and once it was lovely and once it wasn’t. This year we went early July and it was poor.

Being a long pointy thing that juts out into the Atlantic and getting first dibs on our prevailing south-westerlies it is generally wetter than the majority of the country. My experience is that the early part of the summer is the best and as @FannythePinkFlamingo says mid-May to end of June in my experience is generally the most consistent.

A temperate oceanic climate will experience mild winters and cool summers. Obviously going in the period stated above gives you more change of sunshine simply because the days are longer. In my experience, while the days are shorter in August, there is also generally more cloud and an increased chance of rain compared to May/June.

User265438765 · 30/07/2023 19:56

It's just luck, like how different the weather is this summer to last and when we had the lovely weather in the first lockdown.

BarelyLiterate · 30/07/2023 20:10

Cornwall is a narrow peninsula exposed to the Atlantic Ocean on 3 sides. The weather is inherently far more unpredictable than that in more sheltered parts of the U.K. The only thing you can say with a degree of certainty is that it very rarely snows.
Having said that, in my anecdotal & completely unscientific experience, June generally tends to be driest & least windy month, although the sea is obviously warmer in August & September.
