Scam or genuine error? parcel delivery

Parcel was just delivered by dpd. Teenage dd got to the door first as she was expecting something and just grabbed it.
Its not for us. it’s our house number and postcode but a different name and street name.

I haven’t opened it but from googling the sender and searching the tracking number it’s from apple and I would guess an iPad from the weight and size.

Im worried this is a scam somehow. Obviously if some random turns up at the door claiming it’s theirs I won’t be handing it over.

I have spoke to dpd who are going to collect it.
Plus checked mine and dh credit file which seem ok. Will get adult son to do the same when he gets home.

Is there anything else I should do?

Take some photos of the package.
Good idea to send back via DPD.

Why not just drop it round to the correct address?

VisionsOfSplendour · 30/07/2023 14:51

Odd that the postcode and street name don't tally, it must not have been picked from a drop-down

Is the post code of the address very similar to yours, could it be a fat fingered typo by the person whose name is on it?

I would open the package and look at the invoice then email the company asking them what happened. Get a response in writing.

I would knock on the door of the real street address and ask for their name. If it tallied I'd hand it over tbh

Moraldilemma84 · 30/07/2023 14:58

I have found a street with the name on the parcel in one of the villages surrounding our large city but the post is completely different.
I don’t see how it could be a mistake.

I wasn’t sure about opening it?

Address is 15 miles away. I have no idea if it’s the right address so I definitely won’t be taking it there.

In that case I think letting dpd collect with appropriate checks, a receipt, paper trail and photos is the right thing to do.

If someone knocked on my door and asked my name, I wouldn't tell them.

Thanks

i have photos of the box and screen shots of my chat with dpd.
I won’t be here when dpd collect but dh has been instructed to get a receipt and to check the drivers id. The last thing I need atm is to be on the hook for the cost of a new iPad.

Still don’t really understand how you can put in the address that wrong? If I was spending that much I would be triple checking everything!
