What time is reasonable to contact the plumber - Sunday

I'm having a new bathroom fitted in a weeks time so have a plumber lined up. We had a small shower leak which I discussed with him the other day and the result was we decided to stop using it. The leak has worsened and we have noticed it is not just coming out of the shower but has also soaked through the wall into the hall!!

We isolated the electric to the shower as soon as we noticed the leak and last night turned the water off

So now I need the plumber to come and sort the leak, and it's Sunday morning.

When is a reasonable time to contact him?

I'd say 9 am but unless he is a 24 hr emergency plumber he may not answer/be available until Monday morning

How well do you get on with him and do you text him? I often text our plumber at odd hours and preface it with ‘for when you’re working’. Depends how well you get on with him I guess.

We recently renovated and have had a lot of issues so he hears from me a lot.

You can text him now, I'd have thought, explaining the situation and asking him to call when available or let you know when is good to call.

I trust that people have their phones on silent if they are sleeping

He isn't an emergency plumber but he did say if it gets worse get in touch, and was quite clear to say 'you are my customer' when I apologised for messaging him out of hours (Thursday evening) when we initially spotted it.

Really well actually, i made initial contact though Facebook so we use messenger which is much easier than a phone call (for me anyway!)

But 'for when you are working' or something along those lines seems perfect

It didn't even cross my mind but yes, I think you are right about keeping phones silent

If he hasn't already started work on your new bathroom I wouldn't disturb him on a Sunday morning,
unless you know him really well, I'd text and ask him to call round Monday am, explain the leak is getting worse.
If it's really bad and worrying you I'd call an emergency plumber

PowerToTheGnomes · 30/07/2023 08:21

If he doesn't advertise as a 24/7 plumber don't contact him on a Sunday, it's not an emergency, it can wait until tomorrow

I mean we have had to shut off our water - that's an emergency to me. I have limited water in tubs/buckets in the bath to use for toilet flushing.

Oh it actually didn't cross my mind that I should call someone else for this. He has been clear I am his customer and to get in touch if it gets worse, but should I be getting someone else?

Send him a message. I'm sure if he can't help he'll tell you to contact an emergency plumber

Ifailed · 30/07/2023 09:06

Agree with PPs, text him explaining the problem and say you understand if he can't come out in which case you'll call an emergency plumber. It's then his choice.
