I have a horrible feeling they have been missing since Sunday, and as much as I knew I didn’t know where they were (been using the spare) I didn’t realise they were missing missing until today. When I tried to properly look.

Think I just assumed I’d left them in the car since our weekend trip out but didn’t actually look until today. Because I had the spare so didn’t need them immediately. And because well, I’m a bloody idiot clearly 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️. My husband is out with car 7-7 for work and by they time he’s back we’re into children’s bedtimes, then I’m shattered so didn’t go out to look and have failed to ask him to check. Like I said, I’m an idiot.

So. Back to the thread title. Where are the little buggers? I know I couldn’t find them Tuesday as I definitely used the single spare. Doing my best to work out what I did Monday and therefore which key I used. I feel like I’ve looked in the obvious & un-obvious places. Any psychic brainwaves most appreciated. Thanks.

FOUND THEM!!!!!
Why on earth did I not ask you amazing lot earlier???
I started on the trousers, bags & shoes. gave my husband my phone to read through this to get inspiration and he said he’d do sofas then recheck car.

in the bloody sofa!!! Officially found by my eldest (10) who offered to help but stayed away from me sensing the stress building. So lifted up the sofa cushion and there they were.

our conclusion is middle one (6) opened the door post day trip, then went straight to tv to collapse while we unpacked car and made dinner.

im trying not to cry. As that would be a ridiculous thing to do. Sofa is now being added to the “basic places to look before even beginning to think that keys might be missing” list.

thank you thank you thank you.

now time to poor the wine. xx

They’re usually in the sofa 😉. Glad you found them.

This! We have a key pot to put them in. But I can’t remember if it was mine or my husbands keys that were used to get in, and if it was one of us or the children who opened the door. Husbands keys made it back into the pot. I’m normally the more reliable one at putting them away.

I must admit I have my moments eg toilet etc

ladygindiva · 29/07/2023 21:06

I usually find mine on the outside of the door where I left them 😱

We once found some inside the dolls house, toddler must have used them to 'open' the door!

Time to buy a key tracker like Tile! Glad you found them.

I will neither confirm or deny whether this has happened to me. On multiple occasions. 😳

They're either in a rucksack pocket or inside the car door pouch.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 29/07/2023 21:24

We lost a complete set once at home. We came to the conclusion that DS, a toddler at the time, had posted them in the kitchen bin that was hen emptied and the rubbish collected that morning.

A DF found hers posted through the cat flap.

This is so cute. My toddler, when she is playing being a grown-up, is more likely to be found with a coffee cup in hand rather than the keys. Pretty sure all she thinks I do is drink coffee/tea.

So much of my life has been spent looking for keys, wallet, ids. Now, each important item has one of these attached

Even DH is converted.

Jeevesnotwooster · 29/07/2023 21:32

I have previously lost mine

  • on top of bin store outside of the house
  • inside coat (hole in pocket)
  • left in door outside
  • down back of sofa

Any of those any help?

Just seen the cost 😦. Think I might have found something to add to my Christmas list.

First thing in every house is that DH allocates me a place for my keys to live Blush

It has made life much calmer.

caringcarer · 29/07/2023 21:58

You opened the fridge with them.in your hand picked out an item and replaced the item with your keys. My Mum did this once and her keys were in a brown paper bag with tomatoes in.

NotVeryGreenFingers · 29/07/2023 22:20

For me it's usually top of white goods (microwave, tumble dryer) or on a shelf.... got a makeup area or book place or shoe store nearby?

When you come in you normally stick keys down with bags and if you were shopping could be in a bag? Or sleeper under the table or chair in some dar shadow, hiding. They're always hiding in plain sight.

TheGirlWithGlassFeet · 29/07/2023 23:06

Buy a basic key finder. I have spent so much of my life looking for lost keys. They are up there with dishwashers
