Blood test result anxiety - help?

I am anxious about my health so looking for reassurance or perspective before my entire weekend is ruined!

Am hypertensive and had routing check last week. Blood pressure ok but I have just had a text message saying routine blood test results are back and to make appointment in next 2 weeks with the practice nurse

can anyone reassure me here?

Not without knowing what the results are! Having said that, "within 2 weeks" doesn't sound like anything urgent, so I would try to let that reassure you.
It could be anything - including inconclusive results due to the blood clotting in the tube, or being mishandled etc.

An appointment with the nurse and not the doctor would indicate it’s nothing particularly serious.

I work at a Gp surgery and if there was anything of high concern an urgent Gp appt would be made to discuss, definitely not a follow up with a nurse within 2 weeks.

Have you got the nhs app linked to your surgery as you can view the results on there? You'd be able to see what levels are outside the normal range.

I've been called back to discuss routine bloods - in 3 weeks. I can see the results and a few values are slightly outside the reference ranges. The key here is slightly, not great for my health in the LONG term but not dangerous now. I'm expecting a few tweaks to my medications when I speak to gp.

I suspect the same will be the case for you. Something that needs repeating, monitoring or treating, but not something scary or dangerous now.

Have you got the NHS app ? I have all my bloods etc on there as linked to GP SURGERY

sleeplessinsouthhampton · 29/07/2023 12:17

thanks for the responses! i was thinking as nurse it might be something less serious than imminent death - but it was the 2 week was freaking me out like the 2 week urgent referrals

i do have app for prescriptions but not signed up for test results so can't see them

The NHS app will have them anyway, you don't need to sign up for them.

I had blood tests last year where my inflammation markers (ESR and CRP I think it was) were raised, the doctor made me go back fortnightly until they went down to the normal level. Probably something like that especially if you've had a virus lately.

Lots of people do. It’s not automatic for every GP surgery. If she doesn’t have it enabled from her GP’s side not much if anything will show up

If it was serious they'd have phoned you as soon as they got the results, and called you in asap. Try not to worry too much.
