Homemade Passport Photo - tips for white backgound?

My son needs a passport photo and gor various reasons we want to take it ourselves. There are lots of white walls inside our house but we're struggling with shadows. I looked online to see if I could get a cheap (<£30) white backround for use in the garden but they are generally more than that (if they have a frame) and the cheapest get poor reviews. Any tips? (Last time we put a white sheet over the side of the trampoline but had a nightmare getting it crease free and flat).

Or use a photo booth at a train station

Put a light behind the camera pointing towards their face. Like the influencers do with selfie ring light.

Hang a white sheet over a door.

We have a double door with a roller blind. Open doors and pull down the blind so the white back is facing outward. Also hold a white book or big card at chest level to diffuse shadows on face.

Take it in daylight, use the phone flash and make sure to hold the camera so its not at an angle. Like a pp mine was rejected by the automated test but I appealed as I wasn't in any rush and it was accepted.

I laid mine down on a white sheet. As I took the pic on the floor, there was no shadow / light etc. worked really well!!

The photo booths are great, you get a code on the top of the photo sheet that you can type into the passport application and it pulls the photo without you needing to upload it.

Otherwise I've seen people suggest using the side of the fridge as a good background if you have a white fridge.

We went to a passport machine in the supermarket, shut the curtain and used my phone to take the picture. Basically using it as a light box 😆- whether it would work for depends on your reasons for wanting to do it at home

We did all ours in a bedroom, facing the window, but the wall was a dark green. No issues at all with the app we used - Photo Aid - looking at the images we got back, they changed the background to white. Try them.
