Can anyone help me with a plumbing/tap situation.

This is a picture of my bath tap. For a long time I had a rubber hose in that circle in the tap. The rubber has worn away now and it's letting out bursts of water. I do need that shower head hose for the bath for washing hair. I hate washing my hair in the sink and shower and I prefer over the bath.

I bought another rubber shower spray hose for the bath but then I had difficulty trying to put it in. It was too big and then I tried to cut it to size but I cute too much off it.

Then I bought a tap diverter connection. It was delivered to me yesterday. It should work. I got the right size. The top of the diverter can sit flush to the circle in the tap but it's not screwing in. I am not able to push it in.

Through my search online I discovered there is female and male connections. I don't know what is what. I think the tap is female with threads on the inside of the tap. I think the diverter connection is male so it should all fit.

What am I doing wrong?

I need a hose connection for the bath asap for my hair.

Basic question but are you sure you're trying to screw it in the correct direction?

I'm turning it in both directions but it's not going in.

I used WD40 and it still didn't fit.

Does anyone else know what I can do?

I take it you want to screw the chrome part of the diverter valve screws into the hole of the mixer tap, with the shower being attached to the brass thread outlet.

The hole in the output of a mixer tap (female) usually has plastic insert screwed in to it with a pattern of holes in it. Has this been completly removed? If you gently place your finger in the mixer outlet can you feel the threads all the way round or is there some debris in there? If there is debris or the insert is still in there it needs to be removed by unscrewing (appears to be clockwise when viewed from above). If you can feel the thread and there is nothing of the insert left in the outlet of the mixer tap, the chrome thread (male) on the diverter should screw in. If you are viewing from above the mixer tap you want to gently turn anticlockwise until the threads catch, then tighten home. If the diverter will not even begin to fit in mixer nozzle perhaps you have the wrong chromed male thread size on the diverter to fit your mixer tap.

OP looking at similar on amazon, some appear to remove the part above this ribbed section, have you already tried that?

I fitted our bathroom sink and redirected the plumbing to our toilet, the only reason I managed it successfully was with the advice from the staff at my local Screwfix store.
I would often take parts in with a photo of what I was trying to achieve and would come away with the correct plumbing parts. I wonder if you might just need a bush to get the correct connection?
When you attempt to connect - is the diverter fitting too large or do you feel like it fits ok but the threads just aren't compatible/gripping the inside of the bath tap.
