Hospital treatment if I move

Does anyone know if I can continue hospital treatment with my current hospital if I move a few hours away?

I’m currently living in London and receiving ongoing treatment for an autoimmune disease. I need to attend hospital every 8 weeks for an infusion & the odd ad-hoc appointment / scan / procedure whenever they pop up (a few times a year).

I’m just about to move to Warwick & was wondering if I’d be allowed to continue treatment at my current London hospital? The NHS website says I can choose which hospital I’m treated at but not much else. I’m not if they mean any hospital nationwide or if you still have to be based within the city of the hospital or if there is a catchment area based on GP etc.

If I register at a GP surgery in Warwick, the hospital will find out & I’m just wondering if they’ll boot me off their books or if I can continue with them despite the change of address / change of GP surgery?

I know a lot of people will say to move hospitals too but I’ve had years of problems with the NHS and no end of headaches with my treatment. I’m finally being seen by an amazing team & I don’t want to risk rocking the boat now I’m in a routine with treatment. I can just foresee there are going to be delays with getting seen by a new speciality team, getting my infusions set up etc. Stress can be a big factor with my condition flaring and I just don’t need it to be honest. I’ll still be travelling to London regularly for work anyway so continuing treatment where I am is just the easiest option.

Does anyone know where I stand?

I chose to stay at mine for the same reasons and glad I did as ended up having surgery so felt safer. Although, when I've been admitted it's a bit annoying having to travel so far when you feel so Ill and makes it harder for visitors.

I think if I was still at the point of having infusions, and having to travel I may consider a local hospital just to save faff.

A hospital near you might be better than your current one, maybe speak to your consultant and see what they think - they're usually quite honest in my experience.
