Should I just take my meds?

I am 99.9% convinced I haven’t taken my bedtime meds.

For some reason though (I have OCD) I’ve got it into my head that I might have already taken them, and forgotten about it. I took the packet out of my bedside table, took the tablet out, then put the packet away some time later.

I’m worried I might have taken the tablet when I was putting the packet away, and not noticed the one I’d already taken out - I’m not sure.

I can’t figure out from the packaging, I was in hospital two weeks ago so I’m muddled with meds and how many I should have left, etc.

It’s mirtazapine tablets, they normally make me drowsy - I’m wide awake at 1am and agitated, and getting palpitations.

Which is what usually happens when I haven’t taken them.

Rang 111 who said as I’m on max dose the risk of taking them is too high if I’m not sure, if I took it they’d want me to go over to A&E.

I’ve got to do a 5 hour bus journey in 8 hours time alone; with panic disorder and agoraphobia and I’m bloody worried now.

would I be wrong to just take the bloody tablet? NHS24 said risk is if I have taken it I’ll be ODing.

If 111 havetold you not to then I wouldn't, just in case.

But for the future, I would get one of the tablet boxes where you have a section per day (or multiple sections if you take meds at different times). Then you'll always know if you've taken them.

I've got a set of 7, one per day with 4 sections. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and bed. I set up a weeks worth on Sunday evening.

I’d probably take half if it were me. Definitely get a weekly tablet box for the future though.

I won’t take it, I think either way I’m not going to settle. I’ve got diazepam for panic which I could take tonight but I’m worried if I run out of that whilst away - I’m away for 10 days in England (live in Scotland) - I can’t imagine any GP surgery being willing to prescribe me that on temporary residence basis, I don’t know how that would work as it’s a controlled drug isn’t it. My GP wouldn’t prescribe more than 10 days worth.

Don't take. And call 111 again for your what if I run out problem perhaps? Or could you ask a pharmacist tomorrow - they might know what the rules are.

How many do you have left?

obvgoingtochangemyname · 27/07/2023 01:22

Of the diazepam? Enough for 3 a day until Sunday 6th - and then 2 left for Monday the 7th.

I picked up a prescription for 56 on the 19 May and started them that night. I missed two doses as was in hospital so they gave me their supply - and picked up more on the 13th July. By my understanding I should have ran out by the 14th but would have had enough to keep me going to the 16th.

So I would have started a new ‘56’ on the 17th … which would mean if I haven’t taken tonight’s, I should have 45 left… I think.

And yes I’ve got a dosset box, I just never fill it, stupidly.

Just counted, I’ve got 45 left. Plus the one extra on my bedside table. I think that confirms I never took it

Hi OP,
Sorry to hear that you've got yourself in a muddle - I take Mirtazapine too - 2, 15mg tablets at night and I recently completely forgot to take them at night and I spent the night crawling the walls, totally unable to sleep, finally dropped off about 5am. If you will be overdosing by taking a second dose, don't take any more. Mirtazapine stays in your system for a while, so you won't be without any if you've only missed one dose.
Don't be hard on yourself - we all make mistakes at times.
