I have a flight tomorrow at 7am with Ryanair. 4 hours to Gran Canaria. I HATE flying with an absolute passion and although I have to be up at 3am, I'm lying here wide awake in a terrible state. I find talking to people that like flying makes me feel better. Can anyone help me sleep? Thank you so much xxxx

When I say it was a disaster, the man sat next to DH got sick en route and I panicked and accidentally yelled out, "OMG! Wer'e all going to die!!!"

As it turned out, it was the just the man next to DH who died.

I absolutely hate flying too haven't been on a plane for 9 years. I'm awake binge watching episodes of Airline and was actually just thinking to myself how silly my fear is seeing all their flights arriving safely with no issues. I'd love to take my children on holiday. I'd actually recommend watching the episodes while your waiting for your plane or even while on it. I definitely think if find it reassuring.

I'd lovel to take my children on holiday but I can't afford to at the moment at the moment but even if I could I think my fear would still stop me which is frustrating. My mum also has the fear and because of this I didn't go on my first flight til I was 13/14 and probably why I have the fear too! Hope you have a great holiday.

You’ll be fine, OP. Look at the cabin crew, they do this day in day out, back and forth several times a day. I close my eyes and listen to comedy podcasts, the time whooshes by. Enjoy your flight!

I'm not a keen flyer either, but I want to see some of the places it can take me so I find I have to frame it in my mind as just an inconvenience to be got out of the way.

I also look forward to a stiff gin and tonic during the in-flight bar service, and I find it calms my nerves.

Thanks everyone. You have helped. It's the fear yes, and the helplessness of knowing I can't do anything about it once I'm on :( Is it acceptable to have a wine at 6am?? That might help!

Definitely. Normal conventions about alcohol don't apply in the air.
