Health is a given but besides that

For me is a warm comfortable bed. Wasn't always something I had as a child so now every night no matter what else is going on in my life I remind myself to be grateful for it. It puts things in perspective.

Sometimes I lie in bed at night and turn off the lights with my voice and turn on the burglar alarm the same way or the heating up and down etc, and I think what would I have made of this in 1985. It would have utterly blown my little mind to be able to control half my life by speaking.

The freedom and liberty to leave my house and go where I want, to get on a plane or a boat and travel to another country. We were very close to losing that autonomy forever during Covid, people were crying out for the government to imprison them, people were "informing" on their own neighbours.

We are heading down that road again, people wanting to be confined inside their "15 minute cities", begging to become dependent on Public Transport (which is really state controlled freedom). People want every aspect of their lives controlled and monitored, for "safety", or "the environment", or "for our children".

It's sad to watch it happen all over again.

Also, I'm thankful for my body, I'm healthy, I can move around on my own, I can see and feel things, the sensation of cold wind on my face during winter makes me feel alive.

Being able to walk. I have some mobility issues but I can walk and I’m extremely grateful for that.

A warm home. We used to be able to see our breath, on a cold morning, in one of my old homes.

Being able to afford my weekly shop without really worrying. (Obviously within reason).

To be able to lock my door after I come home from work and not be bothered by anyone.

Peace and quiet. Predictable evenings. Calm weekends. After living with an abuse XP, these things are more valuable than I can put into words, even 4 years down the line from leaving him.
