Contusion of spine?

Posted this on general health a few days ago but not had any response, wondered if anyone here might know.

Does anyone know what this might mean after a whole spine mri? Says no evidence of cauda equina but report shows contusion of spine?

Just wondering before I see the consultant and don't really want to dive into doctor google!

I have had previous lumber surgery for cauda equina.

Also it says IMP of MS symptoms, does anyone know what the IMP stands for? I'm seeing the consultant within 2 weeks.

Not sure about the MS part but a spinal contusion is essentially bruising of the spine. So some inflammation and possibly swelling relating to that. It can be from lots of things - eg trauma or sports related etc.

I think I remember seeing similar on my MRI notes and I believe "IMP MS symptoms" means "impression of MS symptoms" which is just another way of saying "query MS symptoms". As in, 'this is the reason the MRI was ordered'. So it doesn't reflect the results.

Hopefully a real HCP will come. Along to comment further.

A contusion is a bruise.

Thank you for the replies, inflammation/bruise is a lot more reassuring than the suspected cord compression.

I'm seeing my neurologist next week about the MS issue, was worried the IMP meant they had seen firm evidence of it! Hate the waiting in-between appointments, hard not to let worry get the better of you.

Well I am firmly with you on the "not medically trained" bench, and so,with that caveat, I suspect "IMP" can be used to describe both clinical presentation and for scan findings that point a certain way, BUT if it referenced radiography findings in this case it would be odd for it to say "IMP.....symptoms" wouldn't it?

Symptoms aren't what you determine from an MRI are they? Symptoms were taken as a clinical history. So just applying logic, I wouldn't read much into it.

You have my sympathy though. I have a dodgy spine myself and waiting for the verdict is the pits.
