Boring Q but is anyone fixing their duel fuel?

Got an email from my supplier offering a fixed deal, it's about 1% less than the standard tariff I'm on just now and it for about a year.

I'm not sure whether to do it or not. I did the calculation thing on money saving expert and was told it was "worth considering" which was very helpful 😏

Anyone have sage advice?

I'm also stuck not knowing... I'm burying my head in the sand, as I think it might be even tougher this winter than last.

Offered a similar deal. Decided not to yet as we’d have a £75 per fuel penalty to switch whereas now we can do switch anytime. Difference is about £5 a month.

I hear you about burying your head in the sand.. I'm metaphorically sticking my fingers in my ears going la la la la la... What makes you think this winter will be worse than the last, because prices on everything have gone up?

That is currently my thinking (and it also means I then don't have to do anything about it).

I did the MSE calculator and got borderline. It said the fix was very slightly more expensive than what variable was likely to be because, while they'll have a good idea what it's going to be from October to the end of the year, there's less certainty for the few months after that, so the energy companies will be hedging their bets.

When I heard Martin Lewis talking about this on a podcast, he did say that you should consider taking a fix if it was cheaper than the current standard rate, but you should be aware that you're really paying for certainty, and it could end up being more expensive than not fixing if prices drop, which no-one knows right now.

Following. We are with British gas currently and they have said if we join on their current fixed tarrif and a cheaper one comes available we can switch free of charge - I can't remember if there was any time period for this free switch offer. However there is a £75 exit fee for each fuel if we wanted to change suppliers. So far I haven't decided to fix.

We got £60 off the bill last winter. They'll do fuck all this winter, and yet prices haven't fallen?

Ah yes. I think I read that on MSE that we will still be worse off anyway this winter than before the price increase.

I can't remember what I was paying per month exactly but I had a look at my previous tariffs and it was 26p kwph for electricity in Apr 22 then a whopping 51p in Oct 22.

I can't believe the SC is 61p per day just now 😖

No, not fixing.
Just had a letter from our energy provider telling us that our bill is going down from £398 to £125 per month.
Suits us. Having a surplus has helped us .
I fully appreciate that others are still struggling and I'm very sorry that they are.

Glad we didn't fix as we'd still be paying a higher price.

Not fixed, but moved to so energy.
