There used to be somewhere that you could send a deceased hedgehog that had died of unknown causes for investigation.

Please does anyone know of this, and if so where it is, if it still exists?

I have searched but not getting anywhere and it is time sensitive.

Waves at @Beenhereforever1978 - I have indeed name changed but I did get an email tagging me!

OP - couple of options in addition to those above.

https://www.valewildlife.org.uk/ are a nationally recognised rescue. They run wildlife first aid courses etc and are fairly well known in hedgehog rescue circles. They may be able to help/point you in the right direction.

Also - might be worth trying your local vet/RSPCA.

Thank you. I have sent a message to the GWH to try to find out whether they still carry out autopsies.

I have never managed to get through to RSPCA for anything so not going to go down that route but thanks for the suggestion.

I did try my vet on more than one occasion but wildlife isn't really their thing and I ended up back at square one. I might ask in the morning though.

I always reckon it's best to try either someone who is likeley to have a clue or someone that can point me to them and then get passed around for a while until get somewhere.

Hello again @Chenford

You'll forever be H8M8 to me 💛

Good luck OP, sounds like a pretty grim situation.

Finally got into the page for the survey which does in fact exist.

Someone might contact for autopsy and a phone no. is required in order for a vet to contact.

I think if you think someone is poisoning or killing wildlife you should try the police also.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 24/07/2023 23:46

Yes most regions should have a wildlife crime officer if you have reason to suspect something dodgy.

MonumentalLentil · 24/07/2023 23:56

I have no evidence of anything. Until I do there is nothing to report. Slug pellets are a problem, and idiots misusing rat poison. Police won't do anything about stupidity unfortunately.
