Anyone not doing teacher gifts?

I usually do but I’ve left it late this year… wondering if I should just not bother rather than rushing around trying to find something.
I do find the whole thing ridiculous tbh.

Write a thank you in a card if you want to, but don't bother with a gift. I never minded not getting presents in mainstream and it certainly didn't influence my feelings towards the family or child. I work in SEN now and never really get presents which is fine.

Honestly, some people make out teachers are grabby but really, we don't mind not receiving anything! (Well, I'm sure there are exceptions!)

Don't bother, no one will notice or mind.

Bit late anyhow - haven't most schools broken up? Or are you in Notts @ButteryNut ?

ButteryNut · 24/07/2023 00:19

I certainly don’t view the teachers as grabby… it just feels as though it’s an expectation now.
It’s just another thing on my list. And it gets expensive with having 4 in primary!

Still 2 days left for us 😞🥱 no idea why our school is so late breaking up this year!

The best present to give a teacher is a card outlining your thanks. (Retired teacher here.)

Please get your children to write a thankyou note.

It doesn't take long to give your kids a pen and paper.

Some people just go out of their way to make things difficult!

Topseyt123 · 24/07/2023 00:28

I don't think I ever did teacher gifts.

I agree. I keep all the little notes and cards given to me by children leaving school. They mean more than chocolates or bath stuff because I can keep them.

Never done teacher gift. What on earth for ?

brokenstone · 24/07/2023 06:10

I don't do them. I can't afford it.

Cards/notes are personal and reflect thought. They’re much better than anything any parent can buy. Save the money and record memories. They’re held very highly.

Nope never have and never will. Can’t stand the pressure parents are put under.

I didn't mean you thought teachers were grabby, just that some people do. It can influence a parent's decision about giving a gift, thinking it's the norm and expected when it isn't by most of us.

HamstersAreMyLife · 25/07/2023 14:35

We do a thank you note and a cheap gift. Think £2-£3 but I always feel stingy as most put a tenner into a joint voucher or spend over £10 on something bespoke or personalised, I'm glad to read it isn't expected as it always seems a bit of a waste and my teacher sister always hates getting food as she has a really restricted diet and has to offload most gifts onto others
