Sleepy daughter

My daughter was super tired at the end of term - really lacking energy, falling asleep and not really wanting to go anywhere or do any activities. I'm not really sure if this is typical for end of term or if I should be worried. She doesn't seem unwell otherwise, but today she's spent most of the day sleeping. I thought perhaps she's just knackered and needs a "recovery day" so I let her sleep as much as she seemed to need, but I'm also wondering if it would've been better to get her up and active so that she'd sleep soundly tonight.

Any thoughts / suggestions? I am a little bit concerned!

How old is she?

Is she drinking more than usual ?

My DD6 has been a tired, emotional mess for the last week or so. Crying at the drop of a hat. Today, she slept in the car- she hasn't done this since she was about 3!

In my experience (as a mum and primary teacher), lots of young children find it really hard to make it to the end of the summer term and genuinely need the summer holidays.

Unless your DD has got any other symptoms, I would just let her rest and not worry too much about bed time. Obviously, if it continues/ she seems unwell, then best to get some medical advice.

She's 5 - not drinking more as far as I've noticed, but I haven't particularly been paying attention to it. I think I would have realised if she was drinking a lot more though!

Diabetes type 1 was my first thought too. If she’s been sleeping all day today after sleeping all night I would getting concerned. Sleeping in the day, Drinking a lot, having a wee a lot, sometimes vomiting can also be symptoms but not always

Kirova · 23/07/2023 20:40

Thanks for mentioning it. I haven't noticed her drinking or having to wee more than usual... I was more wondering if she might have some kind of deficiency. She looks quite pale, circles under eyes, so I was starting to think she may be iron deficient or something like that.

Get her checked over by a Dr who will run tests. How has she been eating? Could she be deficient in Iron or vitamin d or something else?

Ducksurprise · 23/07/2023 20:44

Definitely bear in mind the posters above and a blood test if it continues would be a good idea, but to reassure mine were always the same by the end of summer or Christmas, just absolutely wiped. Still are as senior school and uni.

Thanks for the reassurance! My younger daughter isn't at school yet, so I don't have much end of term experience - she's just finished Reception so this is first year.

She's definitely been a bit off her food and school mentioned that she didn't eat well at lunch too.
