Advice on Amazon 'Scam'

NC for this.

I purchased a pair of Ecco sandals from Amazon a few weeks ago. They were a bad fit and I returned them for a refund and I used the QR code, which was scanned at the post office, for the return. The refund was issued and I thought that was the end of the transaction.

I received an email from Amazon today reminding me to return the sandals (?). I contacted Amazon via chat to query this as the sandals were returned during June. The Amazon representative claims that the parcel didn't contain the sandals. However, I returned exactly what I purchased.

The representative on chat was unhelpful so I asked for an email address in order to escalate the matter. I've had an email back saying pretty much the same thing, that the item returned was not the item I bought, which is 100% false.

How, in the absence of Royal Mail providing an x-ray at the point of handing over a parcel, can I prove that I returned what I bought?

Please help!

I've had a nightmare with amazon. I returned an ipad and the seller claimed it was locked to my account so couldn't refund me (it wasnt) they returned it back to me to "unlock it" yet when they returned it to me it wasn't locked (it was factory reset) and was a completely different item. I returned it back and it took me 2 months to get a refund amazon were awful the whole way through completely unhelpful. If you've already been refunded I would ignore

Thanks for replying @MaxwellCat

Sorry to hear of your Amazon nightmare. I think Amazon are getting worse generally.

Whilst I have had the refund already, they're now threatening to take the money from my account which is a concern.

How can people prove they returned exactly what they purchased in the absence of a printed x-ray provided by the post office or another return courier?

Oh wow really. Can they do that? Hopefully someone that knows more will come along but I think it goes by the weight generally. I'm honestly put off shopping with them i only got refunded when I threatened them with a small claims court!

Give them a call. They're generally really helpful on the phone.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to use the phone (deaf), that's why I used chat and email to contact them.

Just go back to them again. If you're a long standing customer with limited issues just continue to complain as clearly as you can and repeat the facts each time.

Just copy and paste each time.

On Tuesday 7th June I returned my shoes size 6 (long title here) to the post office (address). The clerk scanned the QR code. These should have been weighed which will show the package contains the right shoes. There has been an error in your end misplacing these shoes. I have tried them on and returned the same pair I received. I have been a customer since X , spending Y this year alone. This has never been an issue before. Please confirm that this matter has been closed in my favour.

Was it a third party seller?

IdSell · 24/07/2023 09:37

Did you get a receipt when you posted it back?

IdSell · 24/07/2023 09:37

It might show the weight ?

God I had a nightmare with Amazon recently. Ordered a DVD box set which was dispatched via Royal Mail. Unfortunately the item was damaged in transit and all I received was an empty Amazon box in a bag with a RM note saying what had happened.

Obviously I contacted Amazon to explain what had happened and they sent me a return label. Thought it was a bit pointless sending back an empty box but did it anyway. Had my refund and didn’t think any more of it. Then a few weeks later I had the amount taken back out of my bank (around £80) and received a message saying I’d failed to return the item.

A very lengthy online chat then followed while I repeatedly explained the reason I sent back an empty box was because that’s what I received. They had the RM bag as well which had ‘damaged in transit’ plastered over it.

I did get refunded again OP so it’s worth persevering.

The chat system can be crap. On the phone they side with the buyer and usually give compensation as well as sorting out the problem.

If you have been refunded, what exactly are they threatening to do?

ememem84 · 24/07/2023 09:43

I’ve had a refund outstanding since February. I bought a pair of trainers decided I didn’t like them so returned. They have said they haven’t received anything. I’ve got the evidence from my post office that it was in the system. They can’t do anything because as far as post office are concerned it was sent.

as far as I’m concerned it was sent.

amazon say no.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 24/07/2023 09:44

Is there anyone who can ring for you? Pretend to be you perhaps? Might get sorted out faster. They are definitely more helpful on the phone.

Otherwise, just persevere as others have said.

They're threatening to take the money back off OP again, which they can do.

I had this problem with BT of all companies. They sent me a temporary router when my internet was down and then after everything was sorted asked me to mail it back. I returned in the envelope provided and then several weeks later they sent a reminder. I contacted them and they said that even though I had no proof of posting (stupid but it was their label and so I just popped it in the post box) that they would book it as returned. The following month they added £30 to my direct debit. I was fuming but what could I do? In your case it’s different, terrible customer service by Amazon and I think it might be worth speaking to your bank to see if there’s any they can do to prevent payment. In the meanwhile take your card off your Amazon account, so that they don’t have easy access.
