HELP! I’ve messed with my daughters ear piercing and can’t get the earring back in!

DD is 8 and got her ears pierced after begging for literally years. They were pierced 2 months ago but she caught one on something a couple of days ago and it bled. Over the next couple of days, we ensured we used the cleaning spray but DD was complaining of discomfort. We decided to remove the earring to clean the area more thoroughly, but unfortunately couldn’t get it back in the hole. DD became really upset and in too much pain to try any more so has gone to bed with the earring out.

Will the ear close up overnight? What’s best to do. Do we let it heal up and have it re-pierced if DD wants to? She has taken such great care of them, I’m really upset with myself for suggesting to remove it. 😢

I always had horrendous issues with my piercings as a child, allergic reactions to various metals and studs becoming embedded/skin growing over the backs. I don't think they were newly pierced either.

Quite why no one ever thought/suggested I removed the piercings I don't know. Instead I had a second set done as a teen. Even now I only wear sterling silver. If I wear 'fake' silver my ears itch after about an hour.

I had mine done with a gun when I was about 4 and my daughter had hers done at Claire's 🙈before I read all the horror stories. I must say I can't remember ever having had a problem with my ear piercings, but I had real Gold studs, maybe that helped prevent any infection. My daughter had hers pierced with Silver studs and hers did weep for a few months, but again no horror stories and it all healed well. I guess we were just lucky.

Ice both sides for a few minutes then try again.

@pinkyredrose The doctor who removed them in 1992!

@StarchySturgess1 There's no need to be nasty is there? I was 8 ffs!!!

A doctor isn't a body piercer plus it was 30yrs ago.

It could be infected. Or it could be an irritation bump. That's what happens when you pierce a baby who can't take care of their own body. Take her to a doctor.

Take your baby to a doctor for the massive red raw oozing lump on her ear. I don't think that's controversial. You chose to pierce her ears, please deal with the consequences appropriately.

You can try stretching the earlobe and insert the earring in the back of the earlobe and once it goes in then you can try the front. It took me a long time to get my earrings in but when I tried this it works.
I hope this helps.

This happened to my 2 oldest DDs ears pierced by a piercing shop (9yo & 11yo) on holiday both complained of ears being sore, one had already taken hers out, the other we took them out. We suspect they got infected in the holiday swimming pool. In the end we just left the ears to heal after 2 day of trying. Six months later they asked to get the done again, this time with a gun and absolutely no problems with either. They go days without wearing any earrings sometimes.

Try some numbing gel or anbasol on the ear to numb it first.

Kids having ears pierced is a petri-dish scenario. Plus the catching on things while plaring/brushing hair etc.
Good reason to make minimum age rules
