Washing machine error - my clothes are trapped!

Sorry if in the wrong section, I'm new here but stressing over a technical issue

Washing machine issue - cycle ran but it still says full time remaining and won't open

I'm renting and there's an old Indesit Innex xwd71252 here.

Put a 1hr45 washing cycle on earlier and noticed it was running but the time wasn't going down

1hr45 later it still says 1:45 but won't let me open the door. Like it thinks the cycle has started but it isn't actually running. Turning it off also doesn't release the door, so I've pressed the go button again and it seems to have started the cycle again

What to do if the same happens again in two hours? My clothes are trapped. The machine is housed in a sort of cupboard unit so it isn't easy to pull it out to unplug from the wall

I already checked the manual and this issue wasn't listed in the troubleshooting

I just went back to check and it still says 1:45 when it has been running for a bit.

No idea what to do if it's stuck again when it's supposed to be ended

Turn it off and then turn it on and switch the cycle to a short rinse and spin.

There will be an emergency door release button somewhere on the front. Possibly behind a little panel quite low down. It will take quite a bit of force to activate and you should have towels at hand in case the machine failed to drain below door level.

Swirtch off at plug
Wait 10 mins
Run a drain and spin cycle

Indesit are so shit

spanieleyes · 22/07/2023 20:24

Is the machine draining? Mine used to stop when it was blocked and the water couldn't drain away. If it's not draining, you will need to clear the blockage.

Thank you everyone for being both quick and helpful

I am trying the forcing into a spin and drain idea and thankfully the timer has already gone from 10 to 9 as I type!

get out (or gooogle) the manual.
there should be an 'abort' sequence you could try.

greenacrylicpaint · 22/07/2023 20:26

and yeah, indesit rhymes with sh...

noglow · 22/07/2023 20:26

Drain and spin. Is it one of those that adjusts to the water pressure?

Serendipitouscrow · 22/07/2023 20:29

Landlord special then!

Mine ( not Indesit) had a similar issue and it ended up being the drain was clogged and the machine couldn't empty. There's usually a panel at the front. Inside theres a little hose for draining the drum. Then there's another bit you twist off (will release a fair amount of water too) and when it's open you can check for fluff/coins/hair clips etc.

Thank you, I will try that if/when I manage to release my clothes.

It's a large HMO and the machine gets plenty of use so I'm willing to bet it will be full of rubbish

Thank you everyone!

Managed to get my clothes out in the end, and opening the panel and the plug holding in the house revealed a sneaky sweet wrapper hiding in there 🙄

Hopefully that is the issue solved now
