Can you get emergency meds at the weekend?

My DH was supposed to pick up my medication from our local pharmacy yesterday and forgot.

It has quite extreme withdrawal symptoms (Venlafaxine).

The prescription is sent to the pharmacy by my GP. Both the pharmacy and the GP are closed at the weekend (we live in a village).

I could make it through today okay, but will he pretty ill tomorrow and by Monday will feel horrific (and I have a very full on job).

Is there any way at all of getting two days of emergency medication in this scenario?

Could you try 111 and ask them? They can usually arrange for a gp appointment or call at weekends.

You can try calling 111 or paying for a consultation with private GP (just google it/ i know boots do a service as well as others).

If you call 111 I think they can recall the prescription and send it to a pharmacy that's open.

I’ve emergency meds issued by 111 before. You can do it online

Get a prescription or medicines information - NHS 111

Do 111 have access to digital medical records? If so, then they should be able to see your prescription history and it might be possible to send a prescription for 3 days-worth to the duty pharmacy. It might be a drawn-out process, though, and the pharmacy might be a long way away, so I would do call them ASAP.

111 can issue an emergency prescription to a nearby pharmacy as others have said. It’s a pain in the arse and you might need to travel quite far but it’s doable. We’ve done this a couple of times when we’ve gone away on a UK break and DH has forgotten his epilepsy meds (once, notably, using up half a day of a weekend in the Peak District to get to an open pharmacy - he had to win some serious brownie points back after that…)

Yes. This happened to me a couple of Sundays ago. Called 111 prescription service and they sent a prescription straight thro to my nearest Boots, which was open.

I'd never heard of this prescription service, but it was really good and fast

Call 111 they can arrange for a 7 day supply, they put the prescription on the spine for any pharmacy. My dp takes this and just a word of warning, it can be hard to track down ... call around before heading out. Boots had some last month, month before it was Lloyds

Toothiepegg · 22/07/2023 07:50

Not helpful right now but I've started using Lloyds online. It's a free service, they deliver your medication through the post. You can order the medication and they sort the prescription from the doctor. It's very quick, simple and effective. Plus it's completely free. Saves faffing about with prescription and chemists.

foodtoorder · 22/07/2023 09:29

Another local pharmacy may be able to pull your prescription form the "spine" and dispense from there.
Or I am sure 111 will be able to help with an electronic prescription.

MotorOilHeiress · 22/07/2023 09:33

If your chemist has already dispensed the items it cannot be returned to the spine. But phone 111 and they can do a referal to an open pharmacy. They will then usually phone you to chat and ask permission to access your summary care records. This means they can see its a regular repeat. They will then only prescribe you 2 days worth to get you through till u can get to your local pharmacy on Monday.
