Anyone interested in feng shui? Dipping my toe in and it's quite fascinating!

Wasn't sure whether to start this here or in Property. Anyone have an interest in fung shui? Or is it viewed as a bit 'woo'?

Have been reading a bit about it recently and a lot of the basic priniciples make sense. I realised I'd organised my living room pretty well according to the concept - but that's probably because a lot of it is basic sense if you like room to move!

Has anyone looked into it and applied it to their home and found life improved in any way? All this stuff about 'corners' - wealth, health, family etc. No idea about all that as haven't pursued it that far, but am definitely curious.

To clarify - I am pretty much on the non-woo side of life. 😊

yes! I love feng shui, always careful to keep my wealth corner nice and clean, hahah! It's a good motivator to keep a clean, tidy and decluttered house full of things you love, if nothing else :)
but I do get good results with it too!

Hi @PunishmentRoundupWithJoon i love Feng Shui too. I've been reading up on it on and off over the years 👌

@liondreams - I'm still waiting to establish which is my wealth corner! Keep eyeing all my corners and they're all a tad dusty and abandoned. I still have to do that bagua thingy and put it over a floor plan of my house. That seems like a lot of work 😊What are your good results - am keen to know?? Also, did you do the bagua? For inspiration, like...

@Summer2424 - me too - a lot of it seems to be based on sensible ideas. Have you applied any of it to your life or home?

My home is reasonably clutter free (apart from certain areas that I'm working on) but it could do with a thorough spring clean and that just seems like too much to tackle at the moment - even though cleanliness is important in feng shui.

Some people thing that the wealth corner is the left corner of a room when you are in the entrance. Purists say that it is the south east corner. As mine is both, that is interesting. I have a fast growing plant there but yet to see the bank account take flying leaps.

I remember not liking an apartment years ago even though it was affordable and good area and noting wrong with it. According to Fung Shui, the toilet was in the wealth corner and the kitchen bin was in the love corner! I know it's woo but the vibes were really poor there ,

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 21/07/2023 22:14

@msmonstera - that rings a bell. Is it the left corner opposite the entrance or in line with the entrance? Either way, I can see why the money isn't flowing in - they're both pretty neglected!

OP posts:
msmonstera · 22/07/2023 17:23

The one opposite. South east is more important. It's woo but nice clean energy flow makes sense.

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 22/07/2023 21:00

Got a book from the library yesterday and will be reading it later. I read that having a mirror in the wealth corner can help; there's one that's just biding time there until I decide where to put it, but maybe I should leave it... I did find a £2 coin yesterday so who knows, maybe it works??

I'm very non-woo but I lived in Hong Kong for a few years so have definitely been influenced by feng shui (and Chinese beliefs) to some extent - for example, I have always positioned my bed facing the door. My (Brazilian) cleaner actually suggested moving my bed to a different part of the bedroom last week and I looked at her like she was mad.😂

HundredMilesAnHour · 22/07/2023 21:11

I should add that feng shui most definitely isn't considered woo in HK. The building and positioning of HSBC and Bank of China's buildings in Central to be aligned with feng shui principles was expensive and complex. As huge rivals in the markets there, Bank of China built their office after HSBC did (this is the famous Richard Rogers building) and the BoC design was a deliberate attempt to screw with HSBC's feng shui.

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 22/07/2023 23:38

@HundredMilesAnHour - that was sneaky of the Bank of China!

My bed also faces the door. Often think of rearranging things in the bedroom and living room but then realise that everything is ideally positioned. And everything was arranged before I began to pay any attention to fung shui, so I'm clearly a natural 😁 Shame about the dust under the bed and mucky windows, but I'll get around to that....

My south east corner of the house is the toilet. That may explain a few things!

I must clean the furthest corner from my door too - I have a money plant there, and little Chinese wealth statue and various other bit and bobs.

It does all feel ‘better’ when it’s all clean and decluttered, though. I must get into it again.

I remember in HK a modern building with a big hole built in to allow a dragon to reach the sea. Loved that.

leeloo1 · 23/07/2023 11:50

I used to try and follow these ideas years ago and need some balance in my life right now, so might try again. Any good suggestions of where to start reading up on how to implement/start please?

Titicacacandle · 23/07/2023 11:57

Your bed isn't supposed to be facing the door. If it is you need something to block it. Your bed needs to be where you can see the door but not in direct line of it or to the side of it. All your energy will flow away.

I like it but I also have dried flowers in my house which is a massive no no.

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 23/07/2023 18:39

Actually, strictly speaking, the bed is not facing the door, but the door is visible from it. So, kind of across from the door. I meant that I can face the door when in bed. I think the iron bedstead is not the best fung shui, would like to get a wooden bed.

@leeloo1 - There are many books on the subject. The one I've just got from the library is called The Energising Art of Fung Shui by Paul Darby. It's easy to follow.

Another good one is the Feng Shui Bible by Simon Brown. It's such a fascinating subject!
