Driving theory test - where to start

I'm about to book my theory test and I don't know where to even start preparing!

There's a few apps on the App Store but I don't know which one to choose, can anyone please point me in the direction of a good one?

Also, what do you wish you'd known before you did the theory test? I've had a couple of driving lessons and I'm not too worried about that side of it but the theory is freaking me out a bit, any revision tips please?

TIA

My DD just kept doing the tests on an app over and over, until she knew enough to pass !

There’s an app called driving theory test 4 in 1 kit which is £4.99. I just got that for ds- it has multiple choice questions and practice hazard clips. It’s the only thing he used to prepare for his theory test and he passed first attempt.

It’s years since I did mine but there used to be a book which had all the possible multi-choice questions you could ever get asked so you just have to learn it!

Get a 2nd hand copy of the book, cheaply off eBay. Then use the app at the same time.

My DS said the Dvsa official app was the best one

Both my kids used the dvsa one and just done it repeatedly, I'm not sure if they learned it or memorised the answers but they both passed!

All the multiple choice questions you can be asked on your theory test are based purely on 3 books. Driving the essential skills, the Highway Code & know your traffic signs. If you study & understand these then you’ll know everything you need to pass your theory test.

You can check your knowledge using one of the Apps. I’d recommend the DVSA app.

Not all the questions will be covered by using an app alone as they’re not all published. This is why people often come unstuck on the official test.

second the 4 in 1 app. studied all the modules and then did about 3 or 4 mock tests each day leading up to the theory test. passed 1st time

Looks like the DVSA app is the way to go, thanks everyone!

I'm a bit nervous about the actual test itself, I always had panic attacks when I did exams at school. Is there anything I need to know about the actual experience of taking the test or is it all fairly self explanatory?

That's useful to know, thank you! Are you a driving instructor?

The theory part is "just" basic study and revision skills. I was more worried about the hazard perception, that's something you definitely want to practice, especially if you're doing the theory test before you have much on-road experience.

Pricklyhedgehogg · 21/07/2023 20:33

No problem at all. Yes I am 😊

blahblahblah1654 · 21/07/2023 20:41

Get the DVSA official app. It's about £10 and you get the Highway Code and lots of mock theory tests. I passed my test in 2021.
