How much to get a new bathroom?

Hi just wondered if anyone can help with a rough idea of what you paid for a new bathroom? I'm not moving the stuff- loo, sink, bath with a shower over, but want to get new ones and re tiled, new floor. Anyone had this done recently? I'm in the south east.

Labour is 3.5-7k and then the fixtures cost between 150-1000 for each item depending how cheap or expensive you go, budget 800 for tiles too

Belleandlou · 21/07/2023 13:30

Thanks that's helpful- so maybe 8-10k including everything? Also if anyone has tips on how to find the right people to do it? I am clueless!

Local builder will usually be your cheapest bet, you could check out your local Facebook pages for recommendations.

Always worth getting more than one quote.

My husband is a project manager so he prices the work and then organises the whole job. This is obviously more expensive than you organising all the trades yourself, depends what you want/can afford.

Just had a £7k quote for labour (plus the suite and materials of your choice on top). Midlands

Massively depends on size of bathroom, quality of fittings, and amount and complexity of tiling. Also location is a big factor.

In the SE, the cheapest I’ve come across over the past few years is about £5k all in, but I imagine you could go cheaper if you sourced all your own materials directly. We managed to do our girls’ shared bathroom for £8.5k three years ago. Did our main bathroom for £25k, but that involved a fair few splurges that we’d never expect to get the value back from if we sold up.

Thanks for all these answers, that's really helpful. Maybe I will ask around the neighbours in case of anyone knowing a local builder.

Do you have Nextdoor..... I looked on there, asked for recommendations, and then Check a Traded. Got a fab plumber to do ours. Quotes from bathroom people were ridiculous.

gingercat02 · 21/07/2023 14:39

Ours is going in in 2 weeks, just under £12k all in.

We’ve just done ours - didn’t move anything but new fixtures etc. Nothing to OTT price wise and tiles from Wickes. It was £10k all in - South Wales.

Belleandlou · 21/07/2023 14:48

That looks lovely gingercat02
thanks I hadn't thought of Nextdoor- will look on there

We've just had ours done - everything ripped out and new stuff, including full tiling and all cabinets etc. and fixing the hole in the floor...9k all in

Ginmonkeyagain · 21/07/2023 14:54

We paid just under £6.5k in 2018, it was a fairly small bathroom and we were just replacing like for like (but we did have to do some rewiring and replace all the internal pipework - a late discovery 🙄) . Got the sanitary wear through our plumber. We used a local plumbing firm we trust. The guy could tile and do electrics as well.

There is a separate shower in the left corner that you can't really see. Nothing moved, but probably back to brick on the walls, full tiling, ceiling cladding, spotlight, and LVT flooring. All waste removed.
Local firm with good rep. Should be done in a week

JadeSeahorse · 21/07/2023 15:06

Have had both our bathrooms completely refurbed during the past 3 years.

Our family bathroom; everything kept in the same place, new flooring, half tiled and new suite with shower - high quality mixer - over bath. Total cost in 2021 - £7.5k.
Excellent quality and workmanship!

We used a specialist kitchen and bathroom place who do absolutely everything and we are in Derbyshire.

I would highly recommend using a specialist company who will do everything as trying to get various tradesmen to work aligned can be a nightmare. The bathroom above took 8 days including ripping out, our en suite took 10 days - a bit more complicated - and our kitchen took 10 days. Same company did all three! (Kitchen done 3 months ago.)

mummyof2boys30 · 21/07/2023 15:06

6k last summer. That was for walk in shower, sink, toilet, ceiling and all tiling.

blahblahblah1654 · 21/07/2023 15:08

Ours was 5k all together in 2020 for a very small bathroom in SW London. Shower, no bath. Just b&q fittings.

WeWereInParis · 21/07/2023 15:22

We recently paid about £7.5k for a small bathroom, half tiled, new floor, new bath/sink/toilet, but everything staying in the same place so no complicated plumbing or anything.

That's interesting, thanks. Do you think a specialist company would be a lot more cost wise?

Reallybadidea · 21/07/2023 20:03

Our plumber coordinated electrician/tiler and his own work. Labour cost was around half what specialist companies were charging. I shopped around for the suite, fittings and tiles. We paid £7k including a fair bit of electrical work - spotlights, heated mirror, wall lights, extractor fan - and quite a bit of new pipework. We're in Cambridge.

LoobyDop · 21/07/2023 20:14

Complete rip out and replace, 10k earlier this year in the NW. went reasonably high end but no bath, only a shower cubicle. Included a fair amount of building work- cutting through joists so the pipework could be hidden under the floor etc. Took nearly five weeks with a local company.

caringcarer · 21/07/2023 21:23

OP if you have a local Wickes store at the tolls they have several trades people who advertise on little cards. You could ask for 3 quotes but make it's like for like, say strip put old bathroom suite and dispose of, strip off old tiles, fit new bath, basin, toilet, heated towel rail and put up new walls and floor tiles.

caringcarer · 21/07/2023 21:24

Tills

AverageJoan · 21/07/2023 21:28

We had our main bathroom and en-suite fully remodelled last year (everything taken out, replastered, tiled floors and ceilings, new bath/shower/toilet x2/sink/unit/towel heaters) for £12.5k all in
