My 4yr old wants to go to a 'princess place'

As the title suggests, I have a 4yr old daughter and she really wants to what she calls 'a princess place', but I don't know where to take her! I've thought of maybe taking her to Windsor castle, but it's not like she's going to see any princesses there. Disneyland isn't exactly a day trip out either. Any suggestions? We live in Essex with easy access to London.

Ask her what she wants to do when she gets there. She might not want to see princesses she might just want her to be in a princess outfit having afternoon tea or to ride in a horse carriage or to do a zip wire or who knows?…

Singleandproud · 20/07/2023 20:49

Yes, her idea of a princess place and your idea is likely to be very different. If she can't explain it get her to draw it and then get her to talk you through the picture.

Somewhere like Warwick Castle might work, we've never been but staying on site looks very medieval and Princess-like - as I think of princesses anyway

Has one of her friends been to one of those kiddie dressing up/Princess makeover shops
They curl their hair with a tiara.

My vote is Warwick Castle - there is a lovely princess tower story telling thing that my 4yo loved when we visited.

I agree with PP, ask her for more info.

But some suggestions:

Take her to see Frozen in the West End

Wait for Christmas and take her to see a children's ballet or Disney on Ice

Take her for afternoon tea, but let her dress as a princess (and maybe do her hair and nails if she's into that).

Hampton Court is good and often has days when there are people dressed up as princesses etc.

I saw princess Margaret's daughter in Kensington Gardens a few months back, so maybe there 😂she gave me a stern stare.

busybanana · 20/07/2023 21:02

We haven't been to these places in ages, so do check them out in case they've changed, but Warwick Castle used to have some kind of princess tower, with a story that unfolded as you worked your way around, so that might fit the bill. My other suggestion is Gulliver's, which used to have a place where you could 'learn to be' a princess or fairy - there were costumes and props to choose from, and you'd get a lesson in being a princess/fairy and a chance to take photos.

gottogo23 · 20/07/2023 21:02

Thank you for the suggestions. I feel like she is expecting somewhere with real princesses, so maybe a show or something would be good. I'll look into Frozen in the West End. I feel that she'll be a bit disappointed if we just go to an old ruin somewhere. unless they have a lot of good princess actresses there!

My daughter was fascinated to learn about the difference between Disney princesses and real princesses when she was that age. Princess Anne was a big favourite, as was Brave!

Wenfy · 20/07/2023 21:07

When DS refers to princess place he means Disney Land - so I agree it’s best to check.

Have a root around local Facebook searches/Google. A few places do character princess afternoon tea parties etc. especially in the holidays, I know friends who have taken their daughters, and it’s been a very princess laden, song along to let it go, glittery filled affair which might tick the box?

Boating123 · 20/07/2023 21:09

I haven't been there but I'm planning on taking my 6 year old daughter to Waddesdon manor. There is a huge wedding cake folly there which looks very princess-like to me.

Something like this?

SBAM · 20/07/2023 21:11

As you’re in Essex you could check out Audley end miniature railway - they change the themes every now and again but there’s often characters dressed as fairies walking around and there’s a fairy walk through the woods - it’s not princesses but it is magical.

cheesenotoast · 20/07/2023 21:11

A hotel near us does “Princess tea parties “
Lots of actresses dressed as princesses , with singing , dancing and games the youngsters join in with , whilst the adults have afternoon tea ( and wine )

NiceViper · 20/07/2023 21:12

Yes you definitely need to find out what sort of thing she has in mind.

If you're going to indulge her, you'll need to hit the right note.

Personally, I'd take her to a 3 Day Event!
But somewhere with the right things to do/see and a dress up box for the smallest visitors might be a more usual choice

MsJuniper · 20/07/2023 21:16

Have you been to Wyvernwood in Alresford? Full of princesses, fairies and dragons. It's a lovely day out. I think they do special packages too so might do a princess one?

LittleBearPad · 20/07/2023 21:18

Warwick Castle has women dressed up as fairytale princesses or did pre-covid.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 20/07/2023 21:19

Warwick castle has actors dressed as princesses and does a really good story telling experience for little ones

gottogo23 · 20/07/2023 21:32

These are great ideas. I'm looking into Warwick castle as that's been suggested a few times. How long does the 'Princess Tower' experience last for?

Castell Coch, just outside Cardiff, is fab Princess Place. It's not a ruin, but a Victorian Gothic Revival building complete with a drawbridge and portcullis, and inner courtyard.
The interior is painted and tiled in a lavish totally over the top, fantasy medieval style, crammed with carved and painted animals & plants. Even the furniture is mock medieval.

Well worth a visit if you are ever on holiday in South Wales.

I'm liking all the talk of Princess afternoon teas and tiaras! 👸 👸 👸 👸
