Frustrated by the system

So I went to get a referral for an asd assessment. After an initial chat, the nurse was willing to do it and explained the next steps. However it relies on someone who knew you before the age of 11 to fill in a questionnaire.
So frustrating as what happens with people who cant do that? Parent deceased, not in contact, no siblings, no friends from that era. Or simply want to maintain some health privacy. You are jettisoned from parental oversight im health matters at 16, so why as an adult do we suddenly need parental involvement? Such an inflexible system.
So obviously I can now not get assessed.
I could go private but 1)I cant afford that and 2) what if they require the same?

It's frustrating, but it's important for a reliable adult diagnosis. Can you contact the actual assessment unit and ask if there's any alternative evidence they'd accept? You won't be the only person who can't provide a childhood witness. Maybe things like school reports could be used as collateral evidence.

It’s also awkward when those who do know you are resolute in their refusal to accept that anything about you is in any way contrary to standard.

I didn't need to provide this at my private assessment. We discussed my childhood in detail and the difficulties I'd had as a child, teen and adult and my diagnosis was based on that. Query it.

I'd call and ask them. I was given the forms to fill in about my childhood but didn't have anyone to complete them for me and they still let me go on the waitlist for assessment an just said they would probably ask me more questions about my childhood then.

My husband didn't have anyone from his family at his assessment, he explained the situation and they said it was absolutely fine. Still got his diagnosis without it.

The mental health nurse was adamant it was needed. The follow up appointment has now been cancelled by her. She did an initial screening, said autistic traits were present, wanted d a follow yo more in depth appointment then would refer.
