I don't follow the Feminism board, so I don't know what you on about. Also won't be following the world cup either.

Do you often join threads to declare you know nothing about anything?

IAmMerfacus · 20/07/2023 10:41

vodkaredbullgirl · 20/07/2023 10:23

Nor me.

But you can still care, 'so what????' implies crack on.

Maybe I want to know more, than the opening post.

So what?????????????

So women's football, as with all sport, should be for women only.

loislovesstewie · 20/07/2023 10:45

Apparently the person concerned has never taken the appropriate test because each national football club is allowed to decide independently if players are female. That is what I have gleaned from a brief foray into the subject. Looking at the person in question I think this is another Caster Semenya moment, but when will it happen?

Nanny0gg · 20/07/2023 10:52

vodkaredbullgirl · 20/07/2023 09:43

Maybe you need to put this on the feminism board.

Why?

Spirallingdownwards · 20/07/2023 09:46

I think you meant to say that the DM are the most bigoted paper so will want to froth at the mouth over this.

Yes. It's unbelievably bigoted to not want men in women's spaces and women's sport.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 20/07/2023 10:58

All I can find is she has a condition where she has both sex organs which can happen in rare cases so technically she is both sexes. Her testicles are internal.

This case I feel she should be able to compete

No. Technically you cannot be 'both sexes'. No matter what organs you have or what DSD, you are either biologically male or biologically female.

MummyLaLa88 · 20/07/2023 11:27

According to Wiki - the women's world cup do not have a a upper testosterone limit….. and Barbra Banda was not signed by Real Madrid (women's team) as she failed a testosterone test… “sigh”

You want to know more so therefore you declare you know nothing and aren’t interested either? Literally makes no sense.

How come when PPs post that on threads like this, they never, ever, mean it?

MandyMotherOfBrian · 20/07/2023 11:37

All the while FIFA don’t have a rule we can prepare for an influx of 5-ARD males pretending to be women with high testosterone…

Tinysoxx · 20/07/2023 11:39

Banda failed a ‘gender’ test with too much testosterone. That suggests (but does not confirm) that Banda has a DSD (disorder of sexual development). For example, some males are born with a 5α-Reductase 2 deficiency which means that their genitals don’t look male or are ambiguous when they are born. This is where the phrase ‘assigned male/female at birth’ comes from. In most countries the baby’s sex can quickly be determined by dna tests but in other countries in the past this wasn’t done and the baby was assigned a sex.

The problem sporting-wise with this is that a male with DSD will still have biological advantages over females. They will have XY chromosomes and their hips will move differently, their muscle pattern will be different and they have greater strength and flexibility. And of course don’t have period disadvantages. In terms of football we are learning that women are getting a lot more injuries due to their physiology.

It is incredibly difficult to get factual information about individual athletes but the gold, silver and bronze medal winners in the Rio Olympics for the Women’s 800m are famously known to have DSDs. It is widely reported they all have XY chromosomes. So no biological women with XX chromosomes were on the podium.

Theres lots of controversy about whether males with DSDs (that look like they have female genitals and maybe even raised as girls) should compete in women’s races. A journalist said sportswomen should be able to take testosterone so that they have the same levels. But that has been shown to have long term health problems as seen by the Eastern European women swimmers that cheated the system as it was years ago.

There are enormous problems talking about this. Anyone doing so is labelled unkind or transphobic. Many news stations you think could be impartial and report the scientific facts are very one sided (BBC is particularly bad). So no one hears the full picture.

mycatcontrolsmewith5g · 20/07/2023 11:40

inside science had a very clear feature about this. If she has xx, she's female if xy she's male, irrespective of what her body may look like. it's worth a listen

And surely having to take drugs to compete totally does away with fair competition and sportsmanship?

IAmMerfacus · 20/07/2023 12:05

And some countries Olympic associations actively sought out those with DSD.

pues · 20/07/2023 13:20

Yes sportsmen with this condition are scouted in several countries.

There was a player in the womens rugby league World Cup last who I thought fell into the Semenya category. Plays women pro RL in Australia now. A great opportunity for someone from PNG.
