Things to bring back from the Netherlands

weebarra · 20/07/2023 08:36

Currently on holiday in a Eurocamp in the Netherlands, definitely not experiencing the heatwave in southern Europe!
Just wondering what people would recommend I can buy here that is cheaper/better than home?
So far:
Indonesian ingredients
Pancake syrup
Beer

Anything else?

Stroopwafels

ReviewingTheSituation · 20/07/2023 08:42

Stroopwafels

Tony's Chocolonely if it's cheaper than it is here

LMNT · 20/07/2023 08:43

Big wheel of edam with garlic and chives.

NoCapesDarling · 20/07/2023 08:43

Sugarloaf
hagelslag
decent curry ketchup
more sugarloaf

you can get stroopwafels in supermarkets in the uk so I wouldn’t bother with them.

PuttingDownRoots · 20/07/2023 08:47

I hear the brownies are good

Hensintheskirting · 20/07/2023 08:50

Sprinkles for bread - Hagleslag - the chocolate and the sugar variety as well as plenty of De Ruijter aniseed sprinkles.

Katjes - the liquorice cats, so good and you can't find them here.

We are heading off there soon...take it weather isn't good then 😫

Drews · 20/07/2023 08:54

You're not allowed to bring them back.

TyneTeas · 20/07/2023 08:57

Stroopwaffels
Suikerbrood
Genever

Uggster1 · 20/07/2023 08:58

Vlaametjes!¬

blisstwins · 20/07/2023 08:58

Eros blue mascara

bumblebeessarecool · 20/07/2023 08:59

Beemster cheese is one of the better cheeses. You can get these things vacuum packed because the dutch take them on holiday.
Jopen or other craft brewery beers. Otherwise pick the Belgian Abbey beers.
Appelstroop is delicious and my kids love it on pancakes.
Drop or licorice.
Appeltaart mix or a ready made one
Speculaas biscuits

Clymene · 20/07/2023 09:03

Cheese, especially aged Gouda
Honey cake

Bralessandfree · 20/07/2023 09:05

'Speculaas biscuits', OMG I'm so excited, been buying the ice lollies from Lidl and they are the business.

FluffMagnet · 20/07/2023 09:10

Chocolate hagelslag. My aunt still brings me rations and I'm in my mid-30s. Have never introduced my kids to it, so I can keep it for myself!

weebarra · 20/07/2023 09:16

Love this - yes we bought hagelslag for the DCs already! And the Tony's is definitely cheaper.
Love it here. We're in Gelderland, it's rained most days but just showers and it's about 22/23 degrees.

Tulip bulbs.

Cattenberg · 20/07/2023 09:26

Bitterkoekjes

Carouselfish · 20/07/2023 09:40

Ontbeitkoek, breakfast cake. Sort of like ginger cake but not and you spread it with butter. I miss it loads!

GCAcademic · 20/07/2023 09:41

Well-aged Gouda.

Clymene · 20/07/2023 09:46

And Gouda with cumin if you like it. I love it and you can't buy it here.

SatsumaSplit · 20/07/2023 09:47

You might be able to find some of these things in England but guarantee they'll be cheaper over there, get yourself to a Jumbo for:

Young gouda
Jodenkoek cookies
Mergpijp (amazing marzipan things shaped like little bones)
Calve mayonnaise
Tub of satay sauce
Stroopwafels
Lipton's green iced tea
Fristi
Chocomel
Jupiler
Hamkaas crisps
I could on but that's a good start!

Then go to a bakery and get a thousand saucijzenbroodjes and post 500 to me please 😁

Yes! My toddler loves it.

Rollercoaster1920 · 20/07/2023 09:50

Miffy stuff (although you can get it in the UK now).
