Is it me or do people expect too much.. I posted today and a person asked me to drop it off…the whole point is collection. I think it’s rude

Some people - in all walks of life - seriously lack social skills. Others are just very egocentric and assume that everybody else is there just to facilitate their life.

Also, as well as the many lovely, community-minded people on FreeCycle, it also attracts the kind of person who would never dream of giving away something free that could be worth any money. Therefore, because they would only use FC as a lazy way to get rid of some old rubbish instead of having to go to the tip, they assume that you have the same motive - and that they are unilaterally doing you a big favour by agreeing to take it off your hands.

When what you're giving away is worth a decent-ish amount, but you figure you'll do a stranger a good turn (as well as clearing a bit of space for yourself, of course), they think that you don't realise that it's worth something; effectively, they think you're trying to hoodwink them and use them to offload (what you think is) rubbish onto, so they respond in kind in their attitude to you, to match their mistaken perception of yours!

I've offered quite a few things on freecycle and the ones who reply 'is this still available' and nothing else, and reply to every post , I assume they take things to sell so I ignore them.

What on earth is wrong with asking if something is still available?! Do you not realise how many people leave their ads up once something has gone, meaning you end up either completely ignored or excitedly thinking you've found a solution to your problem, only to be told "Ha! That went weeks ago!"

It's fine - although a greeting and a 'please' at the end never goes amiss; but as PP said, it's when they ask it about everything and not just the one or two items that they would personally like and are hoping they haven't missed out on.

"Hi, I only just saw your post - is your fridge still available, please? If it is, I'd be able to collect it at a time that suits you. Thanks."
