I wish there was such a thing as 'Dresses a bit unusually' storytime. I'd watch the heck out of that.

That's it, really. The choice atm (or at least, the choice as it is portrayed in media) seems to be either Boring Ordinary People storytime or Drag Queen/King storytime (if indeed you opt into storytime). I understand that part of the Drag Queen/King storytime raison d'etre is about showing children queer people just living their lives and wearing what they like to wear. I will look past the performances with dancing for the moment (mostly because Ive not seen any myself) and just focus on the concept of the storytime bit- ie just sitting and reading to kids whilst dressed up.

Tbh, that concept seems fine. However, I'd like a third costume option, I think. Being a Drag Queen/King does seem awfully labour intensive in terms of time spent on makeup, hair and dress, and frankly is not a look you see out and about much. Can we have a more achievable third option of 'Dresses slightly unusually' perhaps? Maybe a young man who has a fondness for enormous baggy jumpers and leggings and has long hair, or a woman who has super short hair and gets all her clothes from the men's section. We could even bring in Goths, Emo people, hippies. It could be a whole 'There are a million ways to dress/present yourself, you don't have to go straight from zero to superglam' thing.

I am a bit knackered and wittering, but hopefully there is a gist there. What does anyone think? Would we watch this? I'd like it to be an option at least.

What?

I think she means she wants more variation in who reads stories to children in the library.

Currently there's drag Queen volunteers and there's ordinary people (librarians, parents) who volunteer.

OP wants people from more walks of life to read stories to children in libraries voluntarily. Such as young men and women who have alternative styles.

She thinks it's a good learning opportunity for children.

OP. Why don't you buy some unusual clothing and volunteer at the library? Start it yourself

Someone on here once suggested a fire fighter story time or police officer or doctor or nurse, and obviously these could be male or female. I think was the idea was to include a non stereotypical worker, so a male nurse, female postman etc
