Bloody Vinted

Just had someone offer £1.75 for an item that was £3. Then when I declined she asked -do you have a counter?

WTF? Is it that important to save 50p?

I’d literally rather take it to charity shop.

What’s the point in selling something for £3? I’ve never sold anything on Vinted which cost less than £10. It doesn’t seem worth it

Most buyers on Vinted are looking for things for single figured prices though.

If you're not bothered about making a profit and just want to declutter, then selling lots of items cheaply is a way of doing so and getting a bit of pocket money.

I recently sold a bundle of 3 toys for less than £20. Individually, they would not be worthwhile to sell, but by having bundle discounts, you will encourage people to buy more from you.

I’ve just spent half an hour driving to various different drop boxes for yodel/ evri/one post. So much faff for a few quid. I’d have been better off doing 1/2 an hour of overtime!

A couple of weeks ago I listed a few things on Vinted and there was an early flurry of sales and three days in a row the same thing happened.

Each day, two items sold and one needed to be taken to the off licence at one end of the village and the other put in the In Post locker at the other end, 15 minutes walk away. But I try to get out for a walk each day, so no bother. And then on all three days, some other fucker bought something before I'd got home from dropping the parcels off.

But I have made £45 from a bag of old clothes that I hadn't worn in ages and all the buyers were happy.

But now it's gone quiet, so either there's no demand for the other things I listed, or people are more likely to buy something newly listed than if its been on for a couple of weeks.

I filter by newest at the price I am looking to buy at. Older listings are more often priced too high, or not in as good condition for the same price, there's usually a reason something has been on for a long time. Couple of weeks isn't a problem, it's more when it's months, but the filter may mean I see a newer one I like first.

I agree. The most common reason they haven't sold, in my opinion, is that they were priced too high, followed by poor condition.

Because it all adds up.

playgroundwarrior · 22/07/2023 10:09

It's worth it to my mind. £3 in Vinted credit it like £15 in real life. I got my favourite rain jacket for £3 on Vinted. Also sold a pair of never worn Cos trousers for £4. Guess it's all relative!

theatrical · 22/07/2023 10:11

Because it all adds up.

Yes, this.
You'll often see 'priced to sell' on there too, where they've been listed quite cheaply to sell quickly.

Some sellers specify 'no offers' if they're not happy to accept.

Swansandcustard · 22/07/2023 10:14

Anything is only ‘worth’ what someone is willing to pay. It may have cost you £30 but it doesn’t mean it’s worth £30. If you don’t like the offer, don’t accept it. I don’t see a problem in them asking.

Vicotto · 22/07/2023 17:11

I’ve found this with my cheap items, people just love to try it! I quite often forget to respond to offers and by the time I do, someone else has purchased for the full listing price anyway.

For the people saying why bother for that price - I sell most of mine for under £5, I’m sure some bits could sell for more but I’ve found generally pricing higher takes longer to sell and I just want it gone as I don’t have a huge amount of storage space. I’d just take it to the charity shop or clothes bank if it’s not sold in a week or so, so it’s a win win making a small amount of money quickly and decluttering for me.
I’ve made about £50 in the last month from baby clothes which all helps on maternity pay (and if I keep the sweet tiny clothes too long I may be convinced to have another one…) 🙃but I live close to Inpost & Evri drop offs and on mat leave so walking regularly anyway, it may not be worth it otherwise I guess. I’ve also found some of the charities near me don’t want certain things at the moment, so saves me lugging it into town to be turned away!

SaturdayGiraffe · 22/07/2023 17:13

Just say “No Offers thanks” on every listing.

Cherrysoup · 22/07/2023 17:17

Just had a clothes sort out due to weight loss and put it all in a charity bag. I just cannot be arsed to sell, the hassle is just too much these days. I'm lucky that I have lots of smaller clothes.

Bananaman123 · 22/07/2023 17:22

I never counter offer, decline and that’s it. I had someone message me after I declined saying well what will you take as I can buy it new for just a few pounds more elsewhere. Told her to go buy it there then as not in the rules vinted must be cheaper

Sessasig · 22/07/2023 17:25

I hate this, I don't bother selling anything under £50. Everything above that I've managed to sell within a week and at most people have asked for a fiver or so off which is reasonable. I know these small sales add up but if you factor in the time dealing with time wasters, wrapping and posting it then unless desperate nah.

Babyenroute · 22/07/2023 18:15

I'm with you OP! I just decline when people make cheeky offers

thecatsthecats · 22/07/2023 18:40

I've listed plenty of things between £3-5, but I only list on the three postage options that suit me, and they're all an easy walk from me. The posting time is generous enough that I can take all the Evri one day, all the Yodel another etc.

I don't care about selling things for a certain price, I'm happy to take a few quid here and there. The good stuff goes for more, and it stacks up into something else decent that someone's selling very cheaply.

cansu · 04/08/2023 21:16

I have on occasion replied that it isn't worth the hassle. They usually just buy it if they want it.

MaydinEssex · 04/08/2023 21:19

What is the counter you talk about? I've never been on Vinted, so apologies for being dense.

Soapyspuds · 04/08/2023 21:40

Can you turn off the offers feature?

fusspot23 · 04/08/2023 21:47

People saying they don't sell things for under £50 don't really get the premise of vinted. It's a bit like an online car boot, people aren't there to spend loads. They want a bargain. And yes it is a pain in the ass to sort parcels and postage and deliveries for a couple of quid but the idea is that all of these quids add up. And eventually it is worth your while.

Obviously if you have decent stuff and can get £20 / £30 / £50 for it then great. But the vast majority of things I see on there are for a few quid at most.

To avoid stuff ending up in landfill, to help out someone with little disposable income and to get it out of my wardrobe! All the little sales mount up

Whyohwhyohwhy123 · 04/08/2023 21:52

I price a bit higher than I want so can accommodate a discount and it seems to work. If an item is £10’or more I price £2 more than I want.
I do find when I counter offer most people come up to something acceptable.
I only do 3 postage options to make life easier.

Yes, quite. I've made about forty quid from eight sales, the split is about 30:10 better items to worse items. But since I can easily work the drop offs into my routine, I prefer to have my stuff recycled than to ditch it, plus I get a growing fund I spend on other bargains.

Vinted has a much better selection than a charity shop too, plus realistic pricing.

QuinnofHearts · 05/08/2023 12:05

I'm using all my £1 sales to try and get some AirPods. Well everyone is selling an AirPod case, or just one AirPod, fucking useless.

A counter offer.

Sellers can reject an offer price and then sellers can choose to make an offer if a price they're willing to accept or choose to leave it at original price.
