Ways to make some extra money...

Promise this isn't a beggy thread.

Due to various reasons I'm struggling a lot at the moment with affording things like food shopping and with having a little boy (4) this is just so important. I'd rather go without and just have a cup of tea knowing he can have a hot meal.

Anyways.. does anyone know how to make some extra pennies on top of a monthly income? Just some little extra ideas? I already sell unwanted bits and bobs on vinted Blush

How about selling Avon or the Bodyshop? They set you up with your own website etc. No traipsing around with catalogues. If you had a babysitter for your son you could possibly do party plan selling. Also you could pick up bits n bobs in Charity shops and resell through Facebook. Good luck.

Please do some reading on MLMs before listening to advice to pick up something like Avon or body shop. Or better yet, just ignore anyone who suggests you become yet another victim of the companies that prey on women who find themselves in vulnerable financial positions and think this is the solution. The real customers in these schemes are the reps.

Is there any opportunity to pick up overtime shifts? Bank jobs can be useful for getting extra hours on an ad hoc basis though you will likely need to commit to an induction period before you start.

Very few people make any worthwhile money from Avon etc, I wouldn't bother.

Move your bank account to one that pays an incentive to switch. You can keep doing this and make hundreds of pounds over time.

Systematically review your finances to see if you are entitled to any extra help and if you can cut any costs, eg broadband and TV services. Any little helps and boosts your disposable income. Look on Moneysavingexpert.com for help with this. There's also a cost of living help section with lots of little tips.

Do you have any forgotten supermarket loyalty vouchers etc that can be used to buy food?

If you aren't able to afford sufficient food, seek out food bank referral.

Previously Asda cafes have offered free or very cheap child's meals without needing to buy anything so look out for that.

If you're struggling due to debt, don't scrimp on food to make debt repayments. If this is the position you're in, you need to seek help with this.

Online tutoring. There's companies that do English as a second language so it's teaching conversational English

My main side hustle is Vinted but I do these too and it all adds up -

Surveys - can cash out at £4 straight to your bank. If you cash out at £4 you instantly get a £1.20 survey so makes it quicker to build back up to the £4. I’ve made £25 in 15 days.

Hey! Use my code 8XNW37 on Eureka Surveys and unlock a short 80p survey just for signing up! https://eurekasurveys.page.link/nzN7q7x7fhzuQEPeA

Do you have a dog? You can earn vouchers quit quickly on Biscuit - Come join me on Biscuit, the pet wellbeing and rewards app and earn 50 Biscuits for signing up

Only been using this one a few weeks but basically it’s cashback on vouchers. So if I’m doing an Asda shop and it’s £40 I’ll buy a £40 voucher on here and I’ll get a couple of quid back. Can do it with pretty much any shop and worth doing if you’re spending the £40 anyway! Can cash out at every £10… I’ve made £7 in about 10 days for reference -

I thought you would like the JamDoughnut App. It gives you discounts and instant cashback at over 150+ shops, restaurants, and supermarkets. Use my referral code FWRH to get a £2 bonus when you use the app for the 1st time. Download for free: https://app.jamdoughnut.com/JoinNow

Quidco is good for cashback it’s just remembering to use it -
https://app.quidco.com/raf/5w7J

Make sure you’re using loyalty apps/cards for offers… Coop, Greggs, Asda Rewards, Clubcard, Sparks etc

There’s lots of good money saving accounts for mums on Insta that are full of good ideas.

Olio is a good app for free food and household bits.

hope this helps :)

I use Survey Spin as you can cash out at £4 and the payment is instant to my PayPal, this is my link: Use my code 9GBU9L on Survey Spin and unlock a short 80p survey just for signing up! surveyspin.page.link/RJEpA2se4LEsUCVx8

I also sell on Vinted, do car boot sales and another survey site called Prolific (although there may be a waiting list)

I also work any overtime I can get and always check TopCashback before making any purchases, especially for insurance/breakdown cover/phone contracts etc

I also do Shoppix to scan my receipts which is basically free money and Airtime Rewards for money off my phone bill

Olio and Too Good to Go are worth looking at too

If you have a coop near you, they do amazing £5 deals for members where you get loads of food. The current offer is a box of breaded fish, bag of scampi, bag of frozen peas, bag of frozen chips and box of 3 magnums. Would last you 2-3 meals and all for a fiver.

mrsfindlay · 21/07/2023 18:27

Prolific studies are great! Although I'm not sure they are actual taking on new participants at the moment. Although it's worth keeping an eye out. Studies are actually really interesting, a lot of them are for university research. Most I've earned for 1 survey is about £13 ish. Most others vary from 60p to £3 ish. I think you have to get to £5 before you can cash out and it goes directly into PayPal. I've made a couple of hundred on there.

There are lots of supermarkets & chain restaurants that do very cheap or even free kids meals. You can buy all you can eat breakfast at Premier Inns for £9.99 & your little one would eat for free. It’s a really lovely spread including cereals, pastries, juices, tea/coffee & full English. Keeps me going all day!
I get a bit frustrated with the surveys etc as often I’m not eligible & get kicked off before the end! Do you have any skills OP? Perhaps you could offer an ironing service, cleaning, sewing etc?

Luxell934 · 11/07/2024 09:36

Get a referral to a food bank from your GP

What? So OP should spend £10 on one days worth of breakfast so her little boy can eat for free for one meal? That seems ridiculous to me. She could go to Aldi and buy £10 worth of cereals, bread, milk, pastries and give him breakfast for 2 weeks.
