Too feel always hungry!

I always feel hungry, my diet is pretty awful and I'm trying to lose weight but I'm just not sure what I am doing wrong, any suggestions?

Thank you

Have you tried eating more protein, especially for breakfast. It's the only thing that works for me.

BrandNewBicep · 19/07/2023 12:48

I find when I eat a lot of sugary foods, it really makes me hungry. Also lack of sleep. Eating more protein fills me up and seems to switch off the hunger.

NotBotheredAnymore · 19/07/2023 13:03

I was the same as you so the things I changed are

Trying to eat more protein, ie protein weetabix instead of normal. Look at the meat in a sandwich. I seem to feel more full after a salmon vs tuna or corned beef vs chicken or ham for instance.
Choosing to drink more water first before going for food.
Eating later in the day. If I eat at 9am I am starving by noon but if I start at noon I eat less throughout the day (that one screwed my wtf response up to be honest).
Eating less sugar/toast.

I don't think I've lost any weight, and I'm not rigid in it, but I have noticed a difference in my hunger levels on the days I do the above.

Tweak little things around and see what works. I'm sure chicken would be more filling for another person but not for me. I was amazed that 2x protein weetabix filled me up more than 4x normal weetabix (and hungry 2 hours later).

This is gonna sound a silly question, but what foods with high protein are easy?

Breakfast I don't eat or it's toast which I know isnt ideal.

It's the snacking I'm trying to stop, and the eating of sugary foods but lunch is my main struggle.

Eggs - really simple and quick to knock up an omelette or scrambled eggs, maybe with smoked salmon. Tins of tuna/salmon/sardines etc. Could cook up a batch of chicken thighs, maybe marinate them, could freeze them. Have a look on the low carb threads for ideas - not saying you have to go full on LC by the way.

I do like eggs and tuna

Great suggestions above for protein. It really does make a difference.

The other thing that helps me is just not having the snacks in the house. If I know they're there then I eat them and once I start I csnt stop. I'll sometimes have a pint of squash when I've got that sugar craving.

It really is a difficult cycle to break.

Low carb + protein and fat especially for breakfast.

High carb foods trigger a lot of blood sugar ups and downs and drive the hunger hormone ghrelin to be released.

Peony654 · 19/07/2023 13:54

More protein, more water, high fibre. Fasting overnight as long as possible reduces my appetite during the day.

Peony654 · 19/07/2023 13:55

And plan out alternative snacks, don't just go cold turkey. Veg sticks and hummus, crackers, breadsticks, natural yoghurt and fruit, cooked chicken, boiled eggs.

immy324 · 19/07/2023 18:36

Are protein shakes a way to go for breakfast?

Sugary food is a vicious cycle...the more you eat, the more you want.

Lovehearts82 · 19/07/2023 18:51

I agree with having more protein. Also are you drinking enough water?

immy324 · 19/07/2023 22:00

@Lovehearts82 no I wouldn't be drinking enough water, I hate the taste of water 😂 I do try and drink squash though

Eggs are amazing for stopping me feeling hungry. Have an omelette for brekkie, keeps me full for hours!
