Coffee confusion

Not much of a coffee person so don't really understand the wealth of stuff out there

what would be like an instant espresso powder please?

two times recently I had a Starbucks espresso in a can, it kept me going for ages, so keen to replicate a cheaper version that I can just make up in a kettle.

price more important than taste, I put two sugars in anyway.

Thank you.

I think Azero so an Instant Espresso, others probably do as well.

BlairWaldorfOG · 19/07/2023 12:24

Do* and it's a Nescafé one I think, silver tin, orange lid.

Thank you Blair.

Azera is the nicest instant. It's expensive, but is regularly on special offer

Random789 · 19/07/2023 13:33

I'm confused, too, about those instant powders. They look and taste just like the nasty powders that preceded the very-slightly-less-nasty granules that have been around since about 1980. I can't understand why they are marketed as something new and different.

HerAvatar · 19/07/2023 13:37

What about coffee bags? Just searched on Amazon and there are several listings for espresso ones, no idea what they're like but might be nicer than the powdered instants maybe 🤔

Mossstitch · 19/07/2023 13:58

Coffee bags are good, better than instant but not as good as real coffee. But I'm into real coffee and no sugar op so if price an issue (the bags work out at about 30p a cup for taylors) then Azera instant is probably worth a try👍

Spanglybangles · 19/07/2023 14:49

I agree with Azera. Pricey but stocked in my local Farmfoods for about half the usual price. Costa are doing an instant powder now too. I didn’t like it but then I prefer something less strong, so may be worth a try for you.

I think because people like different things. You don't like them but others do?

EmmaEmerald · 19/07/2023 15:13

It's not so much about liking them, more just having something I can down quickly that doesn't cost a lot. I'm going to try the Azero, thank you.

Lidl do their version of Azera. Not as nice but still decent, and cheaper!

Oh if I go by there first, I'll pop in, thanks.

Aldi's instant in a tin is decent for instant and cheap.

Just throwing out there that if you genuinely don't like coffee and just want something to get you going, you can buy caffeine pills. It's not just Pro Plus these days, anywhere that sells supplements for gym/sports sells caffeine. You can get 200mg pills, which is a bit more than a double espresso, like a can of Monster energy drink, 100 pills for £7. So 7p a serving.

I can only do about 80mg. I don't dislike coffee, I just don't know much about it. I used to avoid caffeine due to insomnia but now I have a good night's sleep and still need a nap sometimes, especially to get through a day full of boring stuff.

it wouldn't be every day but like this Friday for example, mum has a hospital appointment very early and I think we will be shipped around a lot so it will be a long day. I'd like to start those kind of days with an espresso.

Percol instant espresso is good

OceanicBoundlessness · 19/07/2023 18:16

Buy a small coffee press from the supermarket for about £8, then buy proper coffee. So much better than instant.
